Hello. This is my first posting on this site. I have been a snooker referee for the last 10 years and have joined this site primarily to discuss rules, etc.

I've been playing snooker for about 30 years and as well as refereeing locally, have refereed(?) at county level and at two major amateur championships.

Feel free to contact me through this site if you wish to discuss anything on Rules of Snooker.

Thankyou for taking the time to read this.

Whats the penality when a player is snookered after potting a red and does not nominate a red and neither the refree asks him....?

Normally, after potting a red, a player indicates to the satisfaction of the referee, what colour he is on (Section 2, rule 12(a)). If he doesn't, it then passes over to the referee to ask (Section 2, rule 12(b)). As neither happened we have the following:
                  (i) If you assume that the cue ball ended up not striking any colour, then Section 3,rule 12(d)(vi) applies - penaly 7 points.
(ii) If the cue ball had struck a colour, then the stroke would have to be deemed fair.

                  Hope this makes sense.
