Hi Everyone
Really glad I found this site via a friend.
I have loved snooker since first seeing Ray Reardon play on Pot Black in 1979! The only table I could play on locally was in the local vicarage and I've been an enthusiast ever since. I have worked in snooker clubs, organised competitions and from 1994 to 2003 funded and partially managed the pro - Hugh Abernethy.
He made his first 147 aged 17 in 1985 and if he could have turned pro then I'm sure would have done well. However it wasn't until the new entry system was brought in 1992 that he could turn pro and by that time he had made 25 147's.
Like many good player's, I'd imagine, he never brought that game to his matches and as a result only reached no.79 in the rankings & has stuck around that ranking for 6yrs (still pretty good tho).
My highlight of sponsering Hugh came when he qualified for the Thailand open in 1999 which gave me a chance to hang out and chat with many of the pro's
which was a fantastic experience. (Hugh lost to the eventual winner Mark Williams 5-3).
I play to a reasonable club standard I spose and have just started playing more seriously again with Jimbo (forum member) who is a notch above my standard so am starting to get into line ups etc to try & keep up with him.
So what do u think - Ronnie or Ding, best ever - Davis or Hendry??
Will be watching ur posts!
Larry
