  • Hello.

    Hello.

I'm Andrew from Grimsby. I've recently (in the last couple of months) started playing snooker, on average about 3 frames a week when I have some spare time and I am looking to start playing the game a little more now. My highest break is currently at 22.

I am looking for any hints/tips that you would feel that would potentially help me to improve my game too. Normally when I play, I am playing against people that play for the 'Premier League' teams in our area. These are people that could easily hit 40+ breaks at a time, would this be the best way of improving myself from playing against these?

    Thanks for those that help.

Hi there Andy, yes it's better to play against better players as much as you can, as you will learn a lot how they go about their business and what you need to do to improve to their level and beyond...
Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning...

Hi Andy - The best way to improve I think is to practice on your own and set some targets for improvements in your routines as well as by playing better and better players.

50 50 I would say up to more 80 - 20 if you dont get fed up with it.

            Hi Andy

I'm new here too so thought I'd say Hi.

You'll find lots of interesting stuff on here especially around tournament time.

As for improving, playing as much as possible is the way forwards, including exercises - line up's etc - on your own. Playing better players is good and you should try to strike up friendships in your club - snooker types are generally quite friendly! - and get some tips. You'll probably get some different views in here but generally a small amount of regular practice is better than long sessions occasionally.

I was talking to someone about learning to play the guitar last week and I came up with this analogy.

You have the potential to be an exceptional player but to reach that potential you need to go on a journey. I guess confusious would say a journey of self discovery or that every journey begins with the first step, anyhows... Let's say your journey will take 1000 hours - which is alot of cash when you turn it into light bills! - then the more you play - practice, a match or just with friends - the closer you get to the end!
Wish I cued as consistently as this fella!

Hi Andy and Welcome . Was always told to play people that are better , the same and worse than you .

Otherwise if you keep playing people better , you won't get much table time . Also , watch how the better players play the game . You can learn from watching as well .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !
