  • Hi from Edinburgh

Hey, I haven't played snooker in years but reading this forum is making me want to start up again! Mostly been playing pool for the last few years. Came across the site when looking into getting a half decent cue (difficult to find in Edinburgh) and had no idea what the good makes were etc but you guys really know your stuff! Anyway, thought i'd say Hi before I start bombarding you all with questions!

Welcome mate, few guys on here from Edinburgh. We play at Locarno in Slateford. If you want a chat about cues we're happy to help. We've all been through the hassle of trying to buy a descent cue. Used to be a good shop in Gorgie but closed down about 5 years ago.

Cool, I usually play at Diane as I work on Lothian road and it's close. There's some sort of tournament there on Sunday though so funnily enough I'm got g to the locarno or Shandon for the first time (are they the same place?)

Up until recently I didn't even realise how much I needed a proper cue. I was playing in a pub and after a few frames the guy I was playing with let me use his cue (no idea what kind). It was so light and the tip was so small in comparison to the pub cues. I'd never played with a proper 8 ball cue before. With so much control over the cue ball it massively bettered my game. Funnily enough I thrashed him the next few frames and we parted ways. With my 30th birthday coming up I figured I'd get myself a nice wee present but unsure whether to get cheap peradon or blow a few hundred on a really nice cue. Would there be much difference?

Iain, the Shandon and Locarno are next door to each other with an adjoining door. Locarno is a proper snooker club with 7 tables. The Shandon is mostly pool tables with 4 snooker tables. You won't be able to get a snooker table at the Locarno this Sunday as there is a tournament on and all the tables will be booked. Shandon might be busy as well so maybe you'd be better to phone up and book a table.
Plenty threads on here about cues so have a good read and ask questions.
