    Hello,

My name's Rich and I'm 23. I live in Eastbourne, East Sussex. I have always had a soft spot for pool/snooker but have never followed it on. I watch snooker when it's on TV and I do go and play (american pool) at pubs/sports centres etc whenever I get a chance. Usually it's the first thing I do out of any activity there and always looking for someone to play against.

Lately I've been going with a friend and playing pool, we usually play for a couple of hours. I love it, I could play it all day. Snooker tables seem rather hard to find in social places.

I'm not even sure I would call myself average if I'm honest as I've only been playing a couple of months once a week in total but I enjoy it. I would like to take it on as a hobby and wondered if there are any cheapish courses/class available for a beginner? Also are there any small competitions or snooker meets once I'm at a confident level?

Any advice is welcomed on how to get into playing snooker as a hobby/competitions..

      Hi Rich, welcome to TSF

My suggestion would be to get a couple of lessons so you can learn the basics and get on the right track from the start.

      Also, check out youtube.

      For example:

      https://www.youtube.com/user/nicbarrow/videos
      https://www.youtube.com/user/neilmaxman/videos
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwEdT76gB-Q

      All the best!
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
      I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

That should keep you busy for a while

It is also a good idea to learn all the rules.

I've seen a few coaching companies but none of them seem to show a price. Does anyone know what to expect? Is it done per the hour or day? Are they usually groups or individual training?

              usually per hour
can range from £15 to £50 per hour
but usually best to contact the person and have a chat
              is worthing workable for you?
Frank has had some glowing reviews on here

Yes I received the e. mail. When running my coaching schools in which I had up to 200 youngsters every week a good few from the Eastbourne area are still regularly in touch. Thanks fro the nice words. I'm an old man now but still coach a great deal and really enjoy it. F.:snooker:

good news, let us know how it goes

on the other thread you said you popped into a club and you were the youngest, you say you are 23; well in most clubs you probably will be the youngest in the building

Yeah well I'm mentally about 50 lol. I hate night clubbing and drinking excessive amounts. I enjoy sitting with a pint and just having a good chat etc. if I can combine that with playing snooker will be ideal.

I have booked myself a table tomorrow at my local club. It says smart casual dress code, would jeans and a shirt be acceptable?

I don't think the players or clubs are that fussy these days sadly but it is a bit cold out there - today was so cold I swore I saw a few teenagers with their pants pulled up

should be fine, as long as the jeans are not torn to smithereens and hanging around your knees
