I have no idea what avenue he's taking with this 'weights are evil' nonsense.

as 'feel' is purely subjective there can be no definitive resolution to this argument.

    • Snooker is a results based game. If your cue feels right it is right, irrespective of who, when, what with and how it's been made. The rest is down to technique, both physical and mental. The biggest variable is not what cue you use, but rather what's happening inside your head and how you control it.

      • What an explosion of cue nonsense over the last week or so, thread after thread of fan boys talking out of their backsides. It's a piece of wood whether it be jointed, old ash new ash, kiln dried, air dried or **** wet through it'll still work to a certain degree. All this if Ronnie won't use this or that is tripe. I wonder if I told Messi not to wear whatever football boots he wears he'd become an average player over night ? Perhaps if I made messi wear a pair of boots that were too big or too small he'd be more average !

I love 1 piece cues but if he's going to do a joint, why not a wood on wood joint, ala MW et al., more wood feel is a good thing.
I personally don't believe he does anything too magical IMO......the likelyhood is the top shaft is one part of wood with the butt potentially being any left over piece of scrap with a bit of splice on it.....or just a solid piece of ebony in a heavy cue of 20oz or more.

Especially if u put a joint at 16" or 12" surely it'll make no difference?

Now as u said a "wood to wood" joint would as I see it pretty much guarantee it being one length of ash/maple all the way through......which is why a cue with such a joint needs so much extra time to produce, months rather than weeks..

The wood to wood joint looks rather good on Mark Williams' cue.
            Safety doesn't win frames.......Potting does!

Exactly. What does MW say about joints? He says don't have one but if you must then have a 'woodie' joint. I'd rather believe him than son of gofer or a cue flogger. We all know a jointless cue has more feel and a buttplug unbalances a cue and adds a hammer effect, dulling the feedback which is why Ronnie doesn't have one. Weights, a necessary evil I suppose, but again, another detractor from wood. Though most wood is cheap kiln junk so maybe people simply don't notice a loss of feel with joints/weights/SDs in their dead cues.

And that children is why folk like 2V go and see John; because wood is good. The better and older the wood, the better the cue.

              • I honestly don't think Ronnie bothers about this as he can knock tons with a yardstick

                    • I am seriously beginning to think mb is no snooker player he spouts such nonsense and tries to suck up to some members to gain support, I have been making cues for over 30 years and each post he makes on cues makes me cringe
