I mean ffs guys your supposed to be grown men. Are you not embarrassed when you hit the reply button sending these comments in to the world. I guess you keyboard warriors don't get embarrassed. I bet your the kind of people that like to beat your own kids at sport.
I would like to wish you all a very good night and I look forward to the pointless and very childish replies some of you will put. I have to say it does help me pass the days while I am here in Africa.

All you've done so far is to come on here and claim Parris is the best cue maker and then argue with people who disagree. People who proved themselves on here over the years to know a thing or two about snooker. I'd love to believe you and I love to learn about snooker. That's why I am on this forum. All I've learned of you so far is how to wind up everybody and to be honest, it's getting boring now.
As you can see by the title of this thread and my first comment In no way did I say Parris are the best or brag about my ability. Unfortunately the childish people on here had to antagonise and start it all off. I just joined in once I realised every time I praised Parris the Parris haters club took it very seriously and started slagging him off.
Also, if it is getting boring to you, why comment on the thread?
You don't have to.

The way I see it you ask for peoples opinion they give it and you don't agree. Let people have their say.
Cues are personal pref
There are people who love and use a good Parris cue - like me
There are people who have had a few duffers from Parris - Like me
There are people who have had great cues from other makers too - like me

This whole Parris thing you have sounds a bit obsessive - have you ever thought people might be just having a laugh with you too?
Now that's my opinion - it don't matter if someone likes or does not like Parris - why does this bother you? I know lots of great players that use what others might regard as quite rubbish or ordinary cues that have played me off the table ton after ton.
One cue is not like the next from the same maker can you not see that? -
Byrom peace out

Please read the first 2 pages of this thread and you will see that I did not say anything about Parris being the best until Leo put this post giving his jealous opinion.
That is when it all started. I then saw an opportunity to have a laugh and pass my day quicker with some posts about how JP is the greatest ever. It's not my fault all the JP haters got so angry about it.

And if you were "having a laugh" i think it's best to actually show it with the customary or at the end, so that everyone else knows !!
people are not mind readers you know

There was no need to say it like that, that's why my reply about "The worlds best cue maker" was said.
Here is a question for everyone, I will be sure to check this myself.
How many Pro players have there fingers hanging off their butt when cueing?
Someone posted earlier that Niel Robertson has 2-3" of cue left when cueing adding to my point that I play with a cue that is too short.
I understand that it is personal preference and you get used to it. But playing with the correct cue length to meet your physical dimensions will make you a better player. Terry Griffiths said that. Anyone who disputes that, well,,,,,,
It's the same as the distance between the cue ball and your bridging hand, I believe 12" is the desired distance that most coaches will teach people, but when I do that with my current cue my cueing arm sometimes hit my chest so I have adapted my way of playing with my bridging hand closer to the cue ball. When I used a longer cue and put my hand 12" from the cue ball instantly I felt it to be better hitting the ball and my cue action.
It's the same as anything you do, you make it suit you. That doesn't mean it is the right way.
To the coaches out there.
Do you all have very similar ways of teaching the basics?
By basics I mean, stance, cueing action, distance of bridging hand from the cue ball etc,,,

Well John Parris is not a coach and he cant play but he has seen lots of players and cues and does know how to measure someone up for a cue - I can understand why Leo said that if you are going off him saying it without him seeing you cue up and so I don't see jealousy in his comments - Leo is just a straight to the point kind of guy.
However if you went down and got measured up and it felt right to you personally then I can see your point
Ronnie is about your size and uses one that it just over 58 I am smaller and can use between 58 and a bit and 59. but I like a longer bridge and cant get compact like I used to because of an injury.
You said that you use an elite and have had tons with it so what size is it are you right at the back?
Have you tried longer cues - been in a club had a go - did it feel better?
Did you go to the Parris shop and get measured up?
Lots of tall people use small cues - as has been said.
Picking the cue size weight and everything is tough - you are going from one cue size and weight with your elite to something that is going to feel completely different so Leo's advice about going to GBL and trying a few out first was rather good advice I think.
He did not mean buy something - you could of course spot some diamond - but I think the basic idea is because you have only ever had one cue it would be good to try a few out and get an idea of how different specs feel before jumping in and ordering a 1k ultimate.Last edited by Byrom; 3 April 2015, 10:29 AM.

My Elite cue specs are,,, length is 57" weight 18.75oz tip is 9.5 butt 30mm.
I played almost every day from the age of 13 to 17, then was a bit hit and miss until I have up around 19-20 years old. In this time my highest break was 106. Many centuries in practice off the line up.
I then played around 20 times over the next 17 years until picking up my cue again. Once my children went to school full time I had a lot of time to myself so thought I would start playing again. As expected I was crap but knew I had played well in my youth so kept at it. I told my wife I would get measured up and buy a new cue if I hit a century again either in practice or a match, my match play was terrible but on the line up in practice I started cueing better, I hit 100 and was well chuffed. I might add that a century from the line up is probably the easiest was to get one. As a player who is away from the tables 6 months of the year and only plays 3-4 times a week when I am back in the UK I thought this wasn't too bad.
Back to the cue
I have asked for my new cue to be made to those specs but just a bit longer as advised.
When cueing my last 2 fingers are always hanging off the butt.
tried a longer cue, felt instantly better. Went to the Parris shop and got measured. Took shots on his small table while he measured me at different times of a shot.
Leo's advice about going to GBL was fine, that post was informative, that isn't the post in question.
Also the price of the cue was never the issue. I personally love JP cues and have seen a few around the clubs. I myself had an amazing Elite cue that I played well with. However, it probably is unfair of me to say they are the best cues around after only ever owning this one cue. I was using other info about how many top pro's use Parris cues. I have ordered other hand made cues to compare. When they arrive I will do the comparison, but this may not be any good because it will only be based on my opinion which might not count for s**t.
