Cues and what you prefer or class as the best

How many cues you gonna buy then ? it's just the waiting that kills the excitement sometimes !
I waited 55 weeks for a Robin Cook cue once, nearly killed me, but that seems quite short nowadays, i ended up getting used to a different cue whilst waiting then didn't really get on with the Cook when it got here

I have to be realistic and look at waiting times also.
I have ordered a Mastercraft Black Prince which will be ready in a couple of weeks.
I have also started the process of ordering a Crispian Jones certificate cue, this being the Shattakke model. See his website for pictures. This should be ready once the order is finalised in around 6 months, I hink it said 28 weeks on his site. I'm just waiting for confirmation from him and then I will order it.

That will do for now.

Later in the year I will order a Mike Wooldridge black legend cue. My thoughts are that I can do my own comparison and give a genuine reason for liking/not liking a specific cue. Also I am sure they will hold some relative value for resale if I want to get rid.

The one thing that bothers me though is will I like the Parris when it is ready. I'm hoping I will but if not it will be safely put away for one of my sons.

Wow had the same cue many years over a decade and now you been on here two minutes and ordered three different cues - its either TSF disease or you are the new Dominic Dale -

By basics I mean, stance, cueing action, distance of bridging hand from the cue ball etc.,,,

When cueing my last 2 fingers are always hanging off the butt.

these two are often related, what distance is your bridge hand from the cue ball, and what distance is your tip from the cue ball?
tip to cue ball is often recommended to be around 1/4", with the cueing forearm in the vertical, and then the bridge up to a max of 12" away from the cue ball, often coaches prefer to be closer than 10" for most players.
with all this taken into account where is your holding-hand now on the butt, still hanging off the end?
I'm no coach but the above is generally regarded at good starting points and work from there for your own comfort

I certainly won't be the new DD. I just thought about actually trying out some cues and for the sake of a little cash, MW I think is around £450 and the CJ is £520, my Mastercraft was only £200 so for the price of my Parris I could actually have 3 better cues. There is always the chance that I will like one of these and decide to cancel the Parris, only losing my deposit.

I have to be honest though it won't be a very in depth review because I don't know that much about cues.

I will post a video review of the cues as I get them so you can hear the sound as it hits the cue ball.

Well if you can afford it, it might be best to let the order run, even tho it's an unusual design you have gone for Ultimate's nearly always make money, ie you won't lose anything

Hi all

New here and im sure this question has been asked many times. What do you think the best cue id and why have you chosen it.

I myself prefer Parris cues, I had an Elite made 20 years ago and still use it today. I just loved the brazillian tulipwood in the butt and the designs looked very different to the standard cues that were around at the time.

I have just ordered the 'Ultimate' Parris cue with some exotic woods and vineers in the design.

I know some people don't like Parris cues but I can't fault them.

I don't know if this is the one you wanted me to answer or not. I have ordered and tried out a lot of custom cues and from every cuemaker. I have to admit I have never had a Parris cue that I liked however I've never ordered an Ultimate and I've never held an Ultimate in my hand and tried one out.

There were only 2 cuemakers who got my specs exactly correct whereas I found most of the others to be too stiff as I prefer a medium flex shaft but again to be fair the category of shaft flex is very subjective and my medium preference might be medium-stiff to a cuemaker. The 2 cuemakers were first Trevor White and I used his cue for over 2 years and he even refurbished it for me once when I was in Gloucester.

The second was Mike Wooldridge who absolutely nailed my specs bang on about 2 years ago and I'm still using this cue as my playing cue. Have to admit though I asked Mike to make me another one from his seconds pile about a year ago and he promised to look but I'vbe never heard back from him so my request was probably lost in the very large pile of other orders. No one gets special treatment from Mike I don't think. The cost of this cue with extensions and shipping with some duty thrown in was up around 900GBP but I feel it was worth it to get my exact specs.

Also because I've never seen one or tried one out I've ordered a laminated cue to my specs from The Doctor (Richy) which will have a special titanium ferrule fitted and I'm hoping Richy can hit my shaft flex spec and maybe I will have either a new playing cue or a good second cue.

The nice thing about buying these good cues is I can easily sell them on for virtually what I paid for them however when panjo was introduced I sort of lost interest and have just sold the last of my cues. I would order a Parris Ultimate but as Byrom says, at my age I could be dead before it arrives as I understand the 1pc Ultimates take of 2yrs to make it and for that 2yrs I'm out a big chunk of change which is sitting in John's bank account making him money.

Well - here is my advice -

Part of the reason Ultimates have that waiting list now is because many people just order them to sell them on at a profit with no intention of using them - bit sad really but such is life - So if I was you if you do like another cue in the meanwhile dont just loose the deposit - just keep the order but change to plain Black ebony or a traditional design 1 pc slightly over 58 in length and about 18 oz in weight - makes it cheaper for you that way - then wait -

When it comes have a go with it - don't like it then sell it for slightly more than it cost you on e-bay like everyone else does.

Get in, a Shattake on the way! Quality. You will love his cues. What you'll get from him would have cost loads more of other makers.

Have no fear, the JP will be immaculate, one of the best anyone can buy, the preference of champions!

I reduced down to 9 inches then my coach said to me, you're cueing too close to the ball, so now I'm up at 10.5". Power has gone up a lot. It's different for each player. Bridge to ball length will also be affected by set up, alignment and stance.
