There was no need to say it like that, that's why my reply about "The worlds best cue maker" was said.

Here is a question for everyone, I will be sure to check this myself.

How many Pro players have there fingers hanging off their butt when cueing?

Someone posted earlier that Niel Robertson has 2-3" of cue left when cueing adding to my point that I play with a cue that is too short.

I understand that it is personal preference and you get used to it. But playing with the correct cue length to meet your physical dimensions will make you a better player. Terry Griffiths said that. Anyone who disputes that, well,,,,,,

It's the same as the distance between the cue ball and your bridging hand, I believe 12" is the desired distance that most coaches will teach people, but when I do that with my current cue my cueing arm sometimes hit my chest so I have adapted my way of playing with my bridging hand closer to the cue ball. When I used a longer cue and put my hand 12" from the cue ball instantly I felt it to be better hitting the ball and my cue action.

It's the same as anything you do, you make it suit you. That doesn't mean it is the right way.

    To the coaches out there.
Do you all have very similar ways of teaching the basics?
By basics I mean, stance, cueing action, distance of bridging hand from the cue ball etc,,,
Terry, here is the post I wanted you to look at. Cheers

    • 2v, listen to Terry, he's owned everything. You need to spend time with a cue to understand it. These rats haven't owned a JPU, they're spouting rubbish. Snooker is experiential, they have no experience of the cue they slag off.

I know a Cayman is more fun to drive than a boxster but if I said it was better than a Ferrari based on what someone on a forum had said, I'd be talking as much rubbish as these fools.

A JP is the choice of champions, the best players around, that's a fact.

You talk nonsense - I have owned 4 or 5 of them - one was quality one of the best cues I ever had - two where good and two where pap.

I have like 2v owned some parris - lesser range - better than or as nice as cues in his ultimate range and actually use one now. Its all just a different badge on the same cues at the end of the day if you think about it.

          That's a fact -

tip to cue ball is often recommended to be around 1/4", with the cueing forearm in the vertical, and then the bridge up to a max of 12" away from the cue ball, often coaches prefer to be closer than 10" for most players.
with all this taken into account where is your holding-hand now on the butt, still hanging off the end?
I'm no coach but the above is generally regarded at good starting points and work from there for your own comfort
Dean, I will take some notes when I next play and let you know. My bridging arm is very bent and I believe this is due to the short cue. I had a lesson with Barry Pinches a while ago and he picked up on that straight away. I will be going to see him again when the Mastercraft cue gets here.

Don't get me wrong mate, I will be keeping the JPU but if it does take 2-3 years then I will certainly be used to the other cues by then.

On the plus side I have had the Mastercraft and CJ cues made to the exact spec of the Parris so hopefully it won't feel any different. We will see I guess.

Just don't listen to him if he mentions 'stance'

Unless you like to play when needing the loo

                          • Went to see him last year for some guidance when I started playing again. I haven't made it a regular thing but was thinking of getting a regular coach for when I am in the UK. Someone suggested Steve Feeney but it was just so expensive so I'm going to just use the Ding app for a while with the new cue and see how it goes. If there is certain things I am struggling with I will go and see someone. I am in the Norwich area if any can recommend a good coach

That will be an issue I guess. I don't want to chop and change cues so will just have to decide when I have had a go with the JPU.
