Not meaning to repeat blondie too much:
Generally small tips make getting reaction easier but make potting a little more difficult and increase chances of putting on accidental side.
I play with a really light cue 16oz with a 9.3 tip but I can still rip the cue ball back so you don't need to have a very heavy cue.
Weight and tip size are very personal but I would say that 18oz and 10mm was just about right for a beginner!
If your still not happy with your cue and are thinking about getting a new one let me know and I'll give you more advice (I'm sure the other cue geeks will have something to say too!).

I'd say point at where you want to hit the white before feathering (remembering to look at object ball when striking the ball).
Make sure you hit low but also as level as possible (don't hit down on the ball) and follow through!
i really dont understand snooker sometimes, i havent been able to get into the white for about 3 month and ive persisted and persisted i have recently sanded the tip a little touch and can now get into the white with my York 18oz cue which i have had doubts about, and really shouldnt of doubted it and should of sanded it earlier OR is it all in my head and could i of got into the white anyway and sanding it down has give me a confidence boost, as i have heard snooker is 85% in the head, plz let me know your thoughts

Ps, thx for your input, i will no dou7bt improve my all round game by talking to u guys
This is the greatest game on earth, and the hardest, lol

Maybe sanding you tip has helped but I think that you might be right and it might be in your head. Confidance is a massive part of the game!

        Hi Acey,

.....that's great, and well done for getting into the S-Fs, and it's not easy playing against pros. [I only play as a hobby really, and find it very relaxing..]
Interested to know who your favourite player is though?

        Lol...xx

This year i went to the world snooker c/ships & happened to meet Ronnie O'sullivan as he was walking to the Crucible Theater. I have always been fascinated by his cue action so i stopped him and asked him how he gets terrific timing on his shots. He told me that the key is to "..keep the cue low, flat and drive it through". When i got back home i overhauled my whole cue action & practiced for hours and hours not realizing how difficult it is to put those words into action. However after a while & tremendous perserverence i found that suddenly i was getting a good deal of "work" on the ball. Remember however, ...never ever lift up your shoulder as you play those forcing shots otherwise you lose your timing on the shot. Also, keep the grip relatively loose and as u strike the ball u will instinctively grip the cue tighter as u feel the shot.
Hope this helps ..remember to improve u must a "disciplined" practice routine otherwise u will end being just another face in the crowd...
