Hi all, I am a complete novice when it comes to pool/snooker and need a bit of guidance or advice on a new cue.

I don't have a massive budget (only about £80) so I have ruled out buying a custom cue. I have looked and found some cues which I thought were okay, from companies like woods cues or jian ying, but ive then read reviews and changed my mind. Its becoming a bit frustrating now. All I want is a reasonable cue with a maple shaft within my budget.

Any help, links to, or names of suitable cues would be massively appreciated, thanks

you can take look at Green baize site . he has many of those budget cues ( if i'm not mistaking ).
We bought this morning a Britannia champion cue for 65 mark. for my cousin ( he also had a budget about 80 mark ). The cue is not here yet. but I've heard goode review about them.
I have'nt seen them with Maple shaft btw,,,

I'd have said take a look at the Grand sets...but they only do ash shafts, I think. I only have a couple of maple shafts, and little experience in buying them. You're in a worse place, generally speaking, on the supply/demand curve, with maple shafted cues.

          Thanks Ramon,

I've looked at the green baize site and I have found a starter set with cue, extension and case for £75. As Tetricky said im in a bad position regarding the maple, there are hardly any so I've decided to ditch that idea and just go for ash so I have more of a choice. What would you guys say about these starter packs?

The best you can buy for that money . Realy Nice deal . Can'nt say anything about playblty ( you' ve to try it ). Maybe a visit to green Baize would be a option ??
the thing with Maple is , you need a bit of luk and has nothing to do with how expensive the cue is .
              Gonna tell u sumthing ,
About 8 yrs ago I was in Germany to visit a m8 of mine. we went to a snooker club ( I can'nt even remember which one lol ) . Those guys played a tournament. So I went thr to watch. the kid who was in the final and eventually won, played with a club cue (Maple shaft). I spoke to him, He Said, the cue is just a club cue (not even worth 10 marks). he picked it up in a club to practice six years ago and after practice, went to the owner of the club and paid five marks for it. I played with That cue, it was amazing. he said he would'nt trade it with a JP ultimate . I do'nt know how, But the qlty of Maple wood used on this cue was just perfect .
My point is , the main thing is , the cue suits your game . How mutch Or who made it , is Not important .
Btw . you have a small budget and still u want to buy a cue and play this game and improve ur game . My compliment an good luck .
