  • Black ball

Good afternoon everyone.just a quick question if I may, whenboth players are about the same in points.so it's a black ball game.so my question is,if a player fouls after potting the black.i.e the white goes down.is that an automatic win for your apponent?

Please help as I'm really unsure

    Thanks

You can only have one foul on the final black, so a foul would mean a win to the other player if points are level.
After 15 reds and 15 blacks i did this http://youtu.be/DupuczMS2o4

If points become level because of the foul the black is respotted and coin toss to see who plays the white from the D

When he said "when both players are about the same in points, so it's a black ball game",

I assumed there was a maximum of 6 points, minimum of 0 points, between the players, before the foul was committed on the black.

JRc is right normally only one foul on the black but if points are then level coin toss to decide who plays first

So did I, but Scottley's answer confused matters

Right, I'm confused now, if I'm 4 points in front of my opponent and I foul, say I miss the black completely, I thought it was just a 7 point foul, therefore I can still win. I get that if the black goes down and I go in off I've lost because the black doesn't come back up.

When black is the only colour left on the table then the first foul or pot ends the game. Once the points are put on the board for the foul or the pot, then the player with the most points wins. You can't keep playing on for fouls on the black until the black is potted. If the scores are level as a result of thos points then the black is re-spotted, and a coin tossed to see who has choice as to who plays next.

yes, rules defy logic. 3 points ahead minus seven gives you four. It took me a long time to accept this rule, we never played that the black could not be spotted after a foul, lived in the sticks, we would also put pink on side of pack of reds(2 down) also we played call shots and also had a rule that we could make a ball and it would respot if we called it IN SAFE at any point in game. (you would lose your turn)
I try hard, play hard and dont always succeed, at first.!!!!:snooker:

And we used to blend in some pool rules too, like 2 balls have to hit the cushion on the break, no roll-up snookers allowed or else the blocking colour is lifted, and a few other I can't remember right now.

Yes, we also played that 2 balls had to hit cushions on break. I remember try to get corner hooks or hope he scratched or miscued to try and win the game because black was still on table and opponent only had 12 points, those were the days, I think I succeeded once or twice in winning with a corner hook.
