  • Cueing space

Can anyone tell me the minimum distance that should be catered for around a full size table to accommodate the range of a stroke of a std 4' 10" cue from all angles and what point on the table should this measurement be taken from ?

the standard reply to this would be 5' all round the table to give cueing and walking in space.

you could measure from the cushions but I think outside of the table rails would give extra 4"+

but anything over 5' will be beneficial

Usually said that a room 16' x 22' is the minimum needed, but the more room the better

Too lazy to measure it himself then ffs, a tape measure is all that's needed.

quickshot - what size room do you have or are you custom building? in some circumstances you can be tighter to the table, obviously not the best but...

For a 58" cue it is about 64"-65" as measured from the inside cushion face which allows for some backswing when on the cushion.

Thank you for your comments so far. We have a new clubhouse with a new snooker room with 3 tables. 2 are ok, but the outside edge of the rail at the baulk end of third is only 4 foot six and a half inches from a wall. If the white is against the cushion and there is a need to play straight down the table, on the backstroke the cue hits the wall. There is room to move the problem table a couple of inches. Would the table need to be dismantled to move it ?

Yes, maybe easier now to buy a shorter cue for the rare occasion when it's needed ???

This may be stupid but could you not get enough strong people around a table to shift it a few inches? It will need levelled after I know but could the move not be done without dismantling .
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

No, fitters have special long jacks to lift one side of the table. They can place small castors under the four legs, then jack the other side, then move the table. Obviously, the spot they move the table too will lead to the table being unlevel (this always happens no matter how flat the floor). They then relevel the table using a jack and coaster under the feet, using balls on the table to ensure no roll offs, though I know one poor fitter who uses a six inch spirit level.

If you don't have the equipment, it can hired but at that point you may as well call a fitter and spend a hundred quid and get it done right.
