it's a bit of a struggle to get back on track, but it's great playing again

      Hi Neil

      I play in holland,
started playing competition at the local club straight away (about 4 months now)
about 35 members in 4 divisions I'm still in the lower regions....
but managed to get in a few 30's and 2 low 40's so I'm quite happy

just had a new "bat" --- christmas present to myself because I can't help myself
      mastercraft /maple /10mm / 503 grams (I think that's just under 18oz) round butt 29,5
it's a bit getting used to, but liking it so far

I will throw in a question straigt away

it's hard to always play with the same "side" up because of the maple & the round butt
(there is no badge also, they do not have one for a round butt)

do you think it matters if you play differents "sides" of your cue
or should I mark it, so I'm always playing the same side

      thanks
      matt

I have used a round butt for years but i use ash with a minimum number of Chevrons / Arrows .

I think the answer is that you have to do what is best for you .

For me it's easy .....i spin the cue until the chevrons line up .

That's a decent healthy league , which should improve your game as well . Competition is always good .

So long as your cue is straight it shouldn't make a difference, if you try holding it straight using a mark you might find yourself unintentionally cocking your wrist to straighten up. The beauty of maple is you don't have to worry about the chevrons, when your playing with Ash it can become part of your routine to fidget with the cue if the chevrons aren't lined up right taking your concentration away from the shot.
bottom line if it ain't broke don't fix it, if your already knocking in 40's in competition you don't need to worry about how you hold the cue.
No one is listening until you make a mistake!

            Thanks Neil

I'll see how it goes in the next few months.

otherwise maybe put a sticker on so I can feel it
or mark it with pencil on the shaft, upside & constant bridge length all in one

              thanks culraven,

I'm missing a lot of "easy" potts, so immediately blaming the cue ofcourse,
no way it's because I just started again & over-analysing the hell out of it , hahaha

              cheers

matt, it shouldn't matter if the shaft has prepared and cut properly, but if theres irregular lumps and bumps then the cue may not play consistent from every place you hold it

                  thanks Jason,

I think it has a some L&B's (not to confident with it at the moment)

that's also a reason why I contacted you

maybe you could have a "look" at this one in the future

iv worked on a few so called master craft cues, and at close inspection none looked like they had ever seen a hand plane. butafter i gave it some tlc they played much batter
the one on its way can be played from anywhere, the vide is the same whereever you hold it.
