  • Trying to Solve a Rules Argument

Say your opponent pots the cue ball. Is it legal for you take your "D" zone ball in hand shot directly at a eligible ball that is also within the "D" zone on the following shot? Or do you have to deflect off a rail in order to legally make contact with a ball in the "D" zone on a ball in hand shot? Thanks for any clarification!

Snooker - when the cue ball is In Hand, it is placed by the Striker in the "D".
They then play the Ball On, they can play any direction they like, whether the Ball On is in the D as well, or in the Baulk, or anywhere on the bed of the table.

The only game where you can NOT play the Ball On directly when it is also in Baulk (including the D) is English Pocket Billiards.

    Sec 3.5
"To play from in-hand, the cue-ball must be struck from a position on or within the lines of the “D”, but it may be played in any direction. ..."

Sounds like the sort of rule I would have come up with as a kid if ever my little sister had a chance to beat me
