  • Hi from Athens, Greece

    Hello everyone,

Studied in the UK, that was where I got injected with the passion for snooker (during those years the wonderful Jimmy White was sadly getting hammered time after time at the Crucible).

I am trying to follow snooker events as much as I can wherever I am (expat life etc.) via Eurosport or whatnot.
Should really get down playing again and also visit the UK to attend a game or two at the World Championship, that should be a spectacular experience as a spectator.

Anyhow, thanks for what seems like a great forum (which I shall explore and contribute further of course) and let's see what the World Championship final has up for us tonight.

Oh, forgot to mention - I'm a big Jimmy White / Ronnie fan.

    Thank you.

      Hi There!

      I loved your opening sentence...
"I got injected with the passion for snooker"
It's a drug for sure. I'm gonna use this quote for my signature...

        Gents,

        Thanks for the warm welcome.

I've been working (and living) in Asia since 2006, got repatriated mid-2015, so unfortunately cannot comment on the question regarding tables here in Greece.
I have a very close friend who has had a brand new Riley table set at his mansion basement 20 years back here in Athens but if memory serves well that was an 8-ball standard outfit.

For those of who do not live in the UK and have had an introduction to the real thing (snooker), the table size and its overall sheer presence is hard to forget.

I spent 2 years in Singapore (2013-2015) however by the time my appetite got triggered and was ready to buy a cue and start playing again, I got a nice job offer and returned back home July 2015.
Singapore is a place with clubs, I mean snooker clubs, custom cue manufacturers, you can get many books on snooker as well in the biggest bookshop (Kinokuniya).
From a very quick research I did back then it seemed that the snooker culture was pretty solid over there.

Sadly there are not many places in the world where you can play and enjoy this beautiful game.

I've lived in South Korea (Busan), nothing there, visited numerous times Japan but did not see anything there as well, etc.

British influence or not (in some of these countries) has had a lot to do with it, I guess.

I just remembered the time when I bought my first cue back in 1989 (should have been either in Sunderland or Newcastle).
A lovely (not for snooker though) cue from "Index" Littlewoods.... It was perfect for playing at these small tables in the Hall of Residence I used to stay in...
Ancient times back then, the world has changed so much now.

Anyway, I write too much, but once again thanks for the warm welcome.
