From my friend Google.... Little difference except physical exertion, which is debatable especially at the worlds. So in my mind it doesn't make it more or less important whether it is a game or sport anyway.
SPORT:-
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
A particular form of this activity.
An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
An active pastime; recreation.
Definition of game:
An activity providing entertainment or amusement; a pastime: party games; word games.
GAMES:-
A competitive activity or sport in which players contend with each other according to a set of rules: the game of basketball; the game of gin rummy.
A single instance of such an activity: We lost the first game.
GAMES: An organized athletic program or contest: track-and-field games; took part in the winter games. [like the Olympics]
A period of competition or challenge: It was too late in the game to change the schedule of the project.
The total number of points required to win a game: One hundred points is game in bridge.
The score accumulated at any given time in a game: The game is now 14 to 12.
The equipment needed for playing certain games: packed the children's games in the car.
A particular style or manner of playing a game: improved my tennis game with practice.
(There are more meanings to "game" but they are not relevant)

Please forgive an old codger who is new to this forum, or online conversations, I only joined a couple of days ago
I am glad that you clarified you were an old codger because I couldn't have possibly interpreted that from any of your posts
OT: I agree with the mobile phones thing and I also think that a very vocal minority in the crowd get a little out of hand with the shouting out (especially during Ronnie matches!). The whole discussion about the dress code thing though is extremely dated and reeks of snobbery. There is no way that people in the crowd wearing football shirts or jeans can disrupt play or anyone's viewing pleasure.

Personally I have no issue with dress code, but I did not raise it, though I don't believe it snobbish, just old fashioned decorum
Yes dress code should be brought in 4 fans, would look a lot better 4 the tv and the whole sport in general. When u think about it, a man in a dickie bow getting watched by a people in football shirts is strange, either the players dress code should change or imo the fans should be banned from at least sportswear like some pubs do. Good old fashioned decorum I like it
They showed a clip the other day on eurosport with 2 pros in the 60s or 70 s playing at a working mans club and the crowd where literally on top of them and all dressed in suits. Id did look good. Ray Reardon was 1 of the players and Thorburn was watching and apparently the hurricane was spotted in the background

They were the days of Pot Black that I used to watch when I was a young lad, but I don't recall the audience, perhaps they were totally silent (no mobile phones then).
Just totally focused on the match
