Looking for new cue ***help***

Hi

I have been playing snooker for about 18months now and started off with a Riley cue. It has a lacquered finish that u want to move away from as it tends to not run smoothly through the bridge all the time.

I was looking a John Parris cues and the traditional one as I like the basic look of cues (nothing to fancy).

I was wondering what other cue makers people recommend using with a reasonable budget of about £300.

Also I don't want a lacquered finish but would like a finish that also fills the grain in as I have stubble and found hat when I use some other players John Parris it tends to pull on the beard a little.

I like the look of the plain ebony Maximus Ultimates - are there any users on here who have used these cues?

Haven't tried an Ultimate but I do have a Maximus Immortal, great cues.

If you like your Riley cue - just get some 0000 grade Steel wool and take off the lacquer along the shaft - you can do the whole cue

This will give it a lovely finish - then use some cue oil sparingly to protect the wood - allow 24 hours for it to soak in - then use the steel wool lightly again to finish it

Either shave !!! OR grow beard just a tad longer - I have about 4-5 mm beard and it doesn't stick, but at 2-3mm it gets caught (CRAZY!!!) OR of course just ignore it

If you want a new cue, then get one - If you have to buy online then make sure they have a good return policy - much better to buy one from a shop or a club, so you can try first

Personally I'd rather get a Parris cue off his rack in the shop, than trust that I'm going to like him making me a custom cue
