  • First post - require information on a new technique i've had some success with.

    Hello, fellow snooker fanatics.
Playing a best of 5 with my best friend recently, I started playing the most consistent snooker i've ever played when, from an odd moment of clarity, i started cueing through the cue-ball until i heard that crisp click that one associates with a well cued shot. Basically, i moved my cueing arm forward until i heard the "correct sound", being mindful of keeping my grip losse through the entirety of the shot. I was wondering, is this THE technique i've been missing, do the better players listen for this click? please help, haha.

Hi jdgsunclose & welcome to TSF

I believe that "correct sound" u've heard is a certain feeling one gets when cueing well & I believe every particular player has a certain feeling that they keep practising and strive to have & keep. In my opinion, snooker is a game of heightened feelings and nothing beats the feeling of a well executed shot... Now, I'm not a coach, nor a damn good player but I can very well understand how u felt when u heard that "correct sound", hope this is even slightly helpful

Once again, welcome to the forum & enjoy yourself here

id say that snooker pros go "with the feeling" of the shot.

they will know when theyve timed it perfectly and the cueball and object ball do exactly as they envisaged prior to taking the shot.

at times, you will hear the "click" you say, but doubt many focus on this for any length of time....practising in different places etc.....for instance, Hendry now practises using a music system with headphones, so hes definitely not listening for a click, unless hes trying to fool others by wearing the headphones with no music.

      good question though....

Two very important things when cueing.

1.) Pause for a moment on the final backswing to perform final checks.

2.) When cueing back and forth (fethering) make your grip firm but loose ensuring your thumb and index finger is a slightly more tighter grip. On the final backswing tighten the grip fully but not too tight. Stephen Hendry developed this style and its crucial to cue fluently and consistently.

I wish I could help you with that technique, but unfortunately I can't play snooker....only a very basic one, my highest break is 13

How did you aquire your "elite" status, april? is a 15 break considered elite in Latvia these days? no, seriously, what's this elite business?

The status is about your post count on the forum, not your highest break...or I'd be in trouble
