The barely used, neglected Snooker Room at work. At least the table is in good condition despite the leaking roof and cues with no tips on them. Yes that lump of wood on the table is a snooker cue and yes I put a tip on it.

The room is just big enough for the table and has no windows. Without the fan in the corner it gets uncomfortably hot very quickly.

have you found out the story behind the table and room, why it is there and unused?

Well I’ve been there less than a year and I’m not sure how long the table has been there. I assume it’s mostly unused because there isn’t enough time during breaks and lunchtime (half hour) to play properly.

Until I put tips on a few of the cues in the room, they were all tipless. And given the condition of the pool table and balls in the main break area, it’s lucky that no one has been playing snooker. The pool table is in a terrible state and cues without tips didn’t stop people playing on it. Chucks out of balls, rips in cloth etc..

And it also simply seems that not very many people are interested in playing. For a while a young colleague joined me for a knock around. But he quickly lost interest and went back to the pool table in the main break area.

So basically I have the room to myself. I’ll go into work early or hang around for an hour afterwards sometimes. Very occasionally someone pops there head in and joins me but that’s rare. Even rarer is to see anyone else in there of their own volition. So as I’ve decided to knuckle down and actually try to improve, it suits me to be left alone to practice. Although I’m not sure I’ll be taking my cue to work very often.

The table looks like an Ashcroft, from the narrower space for the two middle legs but yours has an additional decorative freeze under the side boards to the one I have seen before.
The Riley Burwat Arrowflite plate refers to the rails/cushions, so they are probably later editions , anywhere from the late 60s to late 70s (by the logo).

Dean I’ve just found out today that the table has been there for 40+yrs. An old guy came in while I was playing today. He used to work there in the 70’s and was amazed to see the table was still here.

To start with, a few of us even used to come in on our day off for a few hours free snooker. Sad!y the novelty soon wore off for my workmates. I mostly play on my own. I do stay late sometimes and only occasionally do I talk someone else into playing.
