  • Morning

    Good morning,

I recently stared playing snooker again after about 20 years! the main reason for taking up the game again was to support my son.

As it turns out, he's surprised me and just everybody at the local snooker hall. When he started 8 months ago, I was giving him a 30 start. now he gives me a 40 start!

Anyway, I want to support him as much as I can and learn as much as I can in order to support him.

    So, here I am

    Arold

Thanks for the welcome Sam, much appreciated.

I've just been browsing the web and found the web site of the local league that he was invited to join. he had his first match last night and lost 2-0.

Although I can't really help him with the technical side of the game (he's now a far better player than me) I feel that i can give him some guidance on the psycological side. For instance, I reassured him that this was his very first league match and it was in an unfamiliar club with unfamilar people and that he should expect it to take a while before he settles down. the main thing is that the people running the leage team thought that he was good enough to play for them (don't forget he's 14) and that is the most important thing.

I'm also trying to find him a good local coach but that's proving to be a little more difficult.

Also, I'd like to get him up to Sheffield for a week at the academy there later this year.

      thanks again for the post

indeed Arold & if i may add, one must taste loss in order to know and appreciate winning in the future... one more thing, if u can get him to master the art of isolating the external environment while playing a match & just focus on the table while staying fairly relaxed at the same time, should do him good

        once again, best of luck

hmmm, not sure i can help in that domain but i'm sure there are a couple of good snooker centers in Essex... after all, Ronnie O'Sullivan & Steve Davis are from Essex

btw, u got any video footage of your son? would be interesting to watch

good idea! it will definitely help him grasp any advice u give him on technique (cueing, body movement, still head, elbow, wrist... etc) and it's good reference for future comparison

There is a list of World Snooker coaches on the World Snooker Association website.

Failing that, ring all the clubs in your area. Someone will have a contact.

From one snookerdad to another...good luck.
