Eager newbie!

Hi all,

Thought it best for my game to join up after i found you lot on google! A bit about myself for anyone who could possibly be interested

My name's Ashley Edwards, I'm originally from Devizes, Wiltshire but spend most of my time studying and playing snooker at the University of Kent at Canterbury. I really enjoy my time here as we have two tables available for unlimited member use for £30 a year!

I enjoyed the club so much I spent this year as its president and captain of the snooker team the amount of snooker i've played this year i reckon i pay about 12p per hour!

I joined the site to learn tips on gameplay and cue care from those more knowledgable than myself. I'm also keen to make some good new friends and see if there's anyone living near me who could give me a decent game! I'm not prolific in the balls by any means but i've got a steady safety game and a high break of 68.

I hope to make a century by the time I graduate (Jul 09)

you alright mate? you are at a better playing level than me but have you tried youtube? you can find alot of info about break building and pretty much anything else. that's where i look at vids that help my game!

If you're even half as enthusiastic as half of the people on this forum you'll fit in just fine (; Nice to see someone who's good at the game too, not just watches it.

I'm sure there's many a better player than me on here, my current high break is 68 which I'm fairly pleased with. I was in Sheffield on Monday and caught a glimpse of Liang's case which I will be ordering just as soon as I make that elusive century! I'm a firm believer in not buying all the flashy gear unless you have the skills that pays the bills!

Will I find out everything I need to know about yourself on another forum or would you care to fill me in? :-)

Awright Ash, £30 a year! Sh*it, i went to the wrong Uni, lol.

As far as getting better, yea - do a search on here, and youtube that was recommended. There's more to it than can be covered here, but you've got the right idea.. set goals for yoursel and when you wanna achieve each o them, starting off small. Hope that helps!

Yeah the £30 figure is awesome. However I have it in my power to adjust that! Considering putting it up to £40 to fund a recloth on one of our tables, just need more likeminded people at the uni to understand it's still a massive bargain!

will be hitting youtube for some inspiration! my secretary has a vid camera I believe so i may use that for some self-improvement. Did some low quality filming on my phone last term and noticed a lot of head movement that i didn't know was there.

Absolute torture at the moment. At home. Supposed to be revising. Worlds is on. My beloved table and cue are 160 miles away. BAD TIMES!

Ash, the camera idea - that's a good thing to try out, you'll learn a lot - My mate took photos of each stage of my cue action and I was surprised at the feedback! And the patience it took... Which reminds me - You can get a flip camera nowadays that aren't too expensive and the quality isn't too shabby either.

A 68 break is better than most. I've managed to make a 147 but only once, a week ago I nearly made another but missed on the final black.
I was eager to try and make it pro and have snooker as my career but pushy parents wouldn't let up :/

Lucky you got to go to Sheffield, unfortunately I can't drive, don't have any snooker obsessed friends nor is it the right time (exams) to go to the Crucible. Hopefully next year though. Ahaha, last year I bought a tailored waistcoat which cost £120, similar to Mark Selby's with the silver and black. Yet i've also got a rubbish cue case which is practically falling to pieces
