Hi all, I am P.R.O for a small snooker association in Limerick in Ireland, see below some information on us,
NEW LIMERICK WEBSITE AND EVENTS FOR 2008/2009.
Limerick is the third largest County and is located in South West Ireland. It is a county that has always had a good tradition in Snooker. Some of the current players playing in Limerick are Irish Internationals John Torpey who reached the knock out stages of the World Amateur in Thailand in 2007, Frank Sarsfield and Vincent Meaney and former U18 National Champion Jason Waters. Mario Fernandez a top class ex pro and brother of Leo Fernandez is currently residing in Limerick as well and playing in our events as well.
In an effort to ensure the ongoing continuation of snooker in Limerick the Limerick Snooker and Billiards Association was reformed in Feb 2008 after several years.
The aim of the Association is to promote and structure the game at local level, organise competitions in all grades for players of all abilities and to promote and develop under age participation.
After some trial events last year we are delighted to announce a New Calendar of Events at local level for 2008/2009. In our first trial event in March we had 50 entries, 33 of these entries were from players of +25 handicap and thus we decided to structure our events on a mostly round robin handicap system. Our events are designed to provide the RIBSA Irish Senior and Intermediate ranking series players with valuable match practice which will help their game and also probably more importantly provide competitive competition for those players of higher handicaps thus maintaining their interest and giving everyone a chance of getting recognition and picking up some prizes.
We have designed a 6 Event Ranking Series, run on a round robin handicap format, we are also holding a Limerick Junior, Intermediate and Senior Championship, an FA CUP Style open draw after each round event and also intend to hold a Limerick Open for the top players in the Country. All our events are well run and for top events we ensure full dress, referees, top tables, Video recording of finals etc.
We have a basic Website launched to provide News, Information, Draws, Results etc. The address is http://limericksnooker.googlepages.com Please have a look and feel free to contact us on any snooker related items, we would love to hear from other smaller snooker associations like ours to arrange team challenge matches etc..
Yours in Sport,
Kevin Mc Mahon, P.R.O. Limerick Snooker and Billiards Association
