  • GP Last 16 – Important information

    Good morning everyone.

Just a quick note to acquaint you with an important note concerning the predictions for the last-16 (the round AFTER the round robin).

There will of course be eight matches in the last-16. However, until the evening before, there are likely to be a huge number of potential pairings — anything up to 168!

Therefore, the window of time during which predictions can be made may be very small, something like 11 o'clock at night to start of play the following morning.

I have not yet looked at the match schedules in detail, but don't say you haven't been warned.....

Thanks, Statman. I'm sure I will stay up for that.

Nice point! I never realised it would be 168 pairings!!!!

Wouldnt the draws be up a day or to before the matches?

But until the round-robin is completed the night before, the actual pairings will not be known for sure, as there could be any number of players who could go through as 1st or 2nd in their group!

So we will not predict the Round-Robin, then?

Anyway, the last round-robin matches start at 8.30 pm and the first secoond round matches start at 1.30 pm the following day. That makes only 17 hours.

Yes we certainly will be predicting on the ROund Robin, but the above specifically refers to the second round, which will have the tight timescale.

Is it the Wednesday that the Round Robin fininshes? If so it will be complicated by the fact that I will be somewhere between here and Aberdeen when the Round Robin finishes.

              I see.

The last matches in the Round-Robin starts at 8.30 pm on Tuesday. The last 16 starts on Wednesday at 1.30 pm. So it should be OK for you.

Oh that's fine then. You'll realise that this happens all the time mid-tournament and we predict on pairings that become irrelevant. But usually, we can see that only 2 players can fill each slot, whereas going from Round Robin to knockout, any of 6 players could fill each slot. That would make a very long predictions thread for what is only going to be eight matches!

Yes, and we don't want our dear Statman to get burned out!

Would anyone be so kind to put date and time when to predict. I am gone for some courses and dont want to miss some more rounds.

                    Thanks!

As usual, and as per the rules, the thread will be provided at least 24 hours in advance of the start of play for each round - with the possible exception of the 2nd round of the Grand Prix, which is why this thread is here as a warning.

The first round (Round Robin) predictions thread will be started tomorrow morning.

Will it be one big prediction sheet with every game in the round robin stage or a section per matchday?
