PL results – Referendum on particular situation

Riba made a prediction of 4-3 for the Ronnie O'Sullivan-Stephen Hendry match.

As it happens, 4-2 would have earned two points and 3-3 would have earned one point.

Therefore, I propose giving Riba 1 point for that match. I think it should technically be a zero but since there is nothing in the Rules specifically covering this situation I thought I'd put it to you, the Predictors, to see what you think.

Please reply to this message with your thoughts on what Riba's score should be for this match. Riba, you are not entitled to an opinion (well, to post an opinion on this matter – you are of course entitled to an opinion on any other subject, and to post it ).

The responses receved by midnight (GMT) tonight will help me make my final decision. Thanks.

Well, not quite.

I am taking the 4-3, looking at the two possibilities (the first guy getting 4 and the second guy getting 3), which is either 4-2 or 3-3, and scoring the worst of these (which is 3-3, scoreline one frame adrift).

If it was 33-32, there are no possibilities since neither the first guy can get 33 nor the second guy 32, and therefore no score.

Yeah that's the point. Typig 4-3, she almost certainly mistyped and it was supposed to be EITHER 4-2 OR 3-3. So I am giving her the worse of these two.

Which is the logical thing to do Statman. I do think though that in your rules, for completeness, any mis-tyîngs should be excluded in future, then the situation can't come up again.

well, knowing her as a Ronnie fan I thought she might predict Ronnie winning... of course, can be 3-3. ok, I'll take my words back, but still think 1 point is fair

Of course, the Rules clearly state that, in knockouts, the prediction will be treated strictly as typed, so if you say put 13-5 instead of 3-5, you will get a point for the first player winning – as you have given them a bugger score.

Whereas, technically, in the League there is no 'winner' since every frame counts.
