  • PL Final – results – deliberation

So I have shot myself in the foot and found myself in a quandary for which I apologise. I realise I should not have brought in the revised thread, but there it is. I had thought it was the best course of action because I did not have certain access to the internet and I did not feel I could contact every Predictor who had already predicted, with any certainty. It was indeed lucky that Wythenshawe public library was open on Saturday and Sunday!

This means that we have the following situation:

One Predictor went for a (6-0 and then a) 7-0 win, with high break of 115.
One Predictor went only for a 6-0 win, with highest break of 128.

The latter may well have changed his prediction to 7-0 had he been on. At the time, I thought it best to allow correct predictions and that is why I put the revised thread in place. I fell, to an extent, that everyone has been given an equal chance to 'correct' their predictions. However, as it stands at the moment, the latter predictions I have altered from 6-0 to 7-1. You will see that this would have won on high break tiebreak.

I would be grateful for your thoughts. Since it does not involve any cash prize, and assuming it would not have any bearing on the Overall result, I propose calling it a tied Semi-final round. This seems to me the fairest thing to do. I will give the former the full 2 points of course, since it is unquestionable; I think I am minded to give the latter 2 points as well so it is mathematically a tie as well as nominally.

Your thoughts would be gratefully receive.

In the meantime, I shall give you a basic outline of the Final results:

2 points; the two Predictors mentioned above
0 points; dawnie, gensdon, hunny75, mcmanusrules
    1 point, everyone else.

This is the simplest looking score board I have seen in the prediction contest so far.

          Treat both as 7-0.

            Both as 7-0
if you predict a 'to 0', you usually mean a whitewash, don't you?

I'm going to have to agree with the majority. 6-0 means whitewash, it doesn't directly mean '6 frames difference' in this context, in my opinion.

If it had been 6-1 I would've said yes, treat it was 7-2.

I have quoted the above post but it replies to all.

Yes, the reason I initially said 'if anything different I will adjust both scores' is that, if I had not been able to gain access here, we would have had a problem in that someone would have been hard done by if it had gone 7-0 (as happened) but if I had done the other way and left the loser's score intact, and it had gone to a decider, the same would have happened. Thinking that a whitewash was less likely than a decider, I did what I did.

However, when I heard that it was indeed different, I could have left the thread as it was, so that everybody was in the same boat, i.e. predicting the wrong scoreline. However, it would only have needed one person to also find out the 'new' figure and predict correctly, and it would have been pandemonium.

Therefore I am minded to agree with the apparent consensus here, and treat BOTH as a 7-0. This means that rambon should win the round on highest break difference – or should I call it a tie since technically graemespeak DID win? (Technically, everyone had equal chance to predict on both, and only graemespeak put his best-of-13s in. Mind you, I had already stated what would happen and then changed it.)

My temptation is for a tie.

A tie seems fair enough in this situation as predicting 6-0 would be predicting a whitewash as mentioned above. So a tie seems like a fair decision!

Well it has been decided that it will be a tie, with both Graemespeak and rambon getting the 2 points each for a correct result.

Since I have had word from both of those affected, that they are happy with this, I feel the matter has reached a satisfactory conclusion.

Thanks all for your input in this most unusual situation.
