  • I find this whole business a little irrational. If players are going to sit next to each other without masks on, then play on the same table and touch virtually every inch of it in the process, having them use different equipment is not going to make any difference, is it? I think it's a classic case of trying to appear to be doing something useful, but really it's just a waste of time and effort.

      Yes, I concur.

If the arena is sterile and the players are clean when they go in , unless they slaver on each other or the equipment I don't see how they can pass it on . I think the screen in between is a bit over the top but I suppose if they can't get the required distance apart to social distance, it had to be done.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

+ the amount of time in that close distance = higher risk
as you say, had to be done

I couldn’t agree more. It sounds silly but it’s frustrating just watching them fumble underneath the table for the right piece of equipment. Imagine how it is for them. And as you so rightly say, totally unnecessary!

agree with you but they have a responsibility to set the right example for the thousands visiting clubs each day.

              • I guess so, but if it's mostly for display, I think more emphasis on things that are genuinely helpful would be better.

Anyway, good frame for Yan Bingtao to win. Nice to see him keeping his concentration and fighting back from behind.

                  • Any time multiple visits are needed, I have more confidence in Yan than I do in Trump.

Not unless he tidies up that sloppy cueball of his. Or, goes into hyper-pot mode.

                      • Never heard Kurt Maflin speak before. Always presumed he was Norwegian born and bred, so was surprised to hear a strong London accent.

                        • Just kidding but doesn't Maflin resemble Bluto from the cartoon Popeye?

He'll be fine, mainly because I don't have confidence in Yan to put him away. Trump is quite fortunate that there is no one around him in the draw to punish him and with Higgins in trouble here, I struggle to see anyone to stop him in a long distance match. At least, not until the final.

                            • Another 'Higginsian' break to narrow to 10-9 when he looked like dropping 3 behind. Whatever you think of him, he has some bottle under pressure.

                              • Higgins' form has been unpredictable in recent years but he's always exiting to watch. Gutted I didn't see the 147 live but he's probably got another one in him.
