  • You only get your 7500 if you win your first match . It's the same with the Worlds , the top16 only get ranking points if they win their first match .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

Also Shoot out, Players Championship and Tour Championship. I understand what the rule is, it’s the logic I don’t understand. Why let the player pick up the prize money but not give him the ranking points. Doesn’t make sense to me. Perhaps it’s some sort of penalty for not trying hard enough?

      • I like it , I think Hearn's idea is that you reward the players' that perform .

Yeah but they go home with a cheque for 5k for losing, just no ranking points. That’s the bit I can’t get my head round. Effectively they HAVE been rewarded for losing. Maybe the 5k cheque is just some sort of appearance money to cover expenses and to ensure they turn up even although they’re not feeling 100%?

          • The reward is for being in the top 32 , but I get what you are saying though.

            • I know I've already made the point but I'm going to make it again anyway because it's cropped up yet again... the damn re-rack!!

Why bother with tactical play at all?? Just bring in a new rule that says when more than two reds end up on a cushion a re-rack is suggested.

Oh, hold on... they do that already!

And why the feck does it always get a round of applause???

              • I don't see it happening, but it would really be a beautiful story if Dott won today.

I agree it's kinda strange, but see it this way:

They didn't win a match there so they didn't do anything better than the players who didn't qualify. So they don't receive any ranking points - which I personally think is fine, cause it's already an advantage over most players on the circuit to gain more points there. So you don't need to reward them in that regard.
But they showed up to work, playing a few frames and so get paid for this.

                  • If this weather keeps up I'll have to resort to a web feed somewhere, coz my Sky signal will go for a Burton if we get much more.

                    • Good start this, very entertaining stuff... if Grame can keep this up it may be a closer match than you would expect considering the form Neil's in.
                      "That pocket moved!"

Good explanation Jim. I can see your logic. Top players have put years of practice in to get where they are so want the rewards. It’s just a pet hate of mine that the top players earn huge amounts and the lower ranked players struggle to make ends meet.

Not good weather to be outside with such strong winds. I had to go out to get provisions for tonights session and was nearly lifted off my feet.

No, I'd not have ventured out! But thanks to those storms I've now discovered I have three leaks in my hallway ceiling and one in my living room

                            • I honestly believe if Graeme Dott wins this they'll still spend all their time in the studio talking about how well Neil Robertson played.

                              • I remember an interview with Dott where he mentions about going to a players dinner or awards night or whatever and different players were given expensive gifts. John Higgins got a bar of gold or something and Dott got a highlight DVD of him winning the tournament previously. I thought it summed up his treatment quite well.
