    6. Selby

Jimmy White just misses out and if we go back a bit further, you're obviously looking at Ray Reardon and Alex Higgins, but the 70s are difficult to compare. That's just my view though, others will differ.
yeah thats palatable , for me maybe swap j higgins over davis and selby over williams , also allen over murphy even if allen's record might not be quite as good , i think he's slightly a better player .

Agreed. I'd add Murphy to that as well, even if he's a bit behind the other two. Robertson really should be aiming to catch Selby if possible because he's significantly below in both the WC and Masters. No world final in a decade is a big hole for him to fill!

I'm confident Selby will ultimately surpass Williams in time but it's a case of 1 more Masters title vs 4 more ranking titles. I'd side with Williams because of his Majors-sweep in 02/03. Plus his prime had less tournaments to win. Imagine if they had 14 ranking events a season from 2003-2011?

I think it's quite interesting to compare the legends and work out who fits where. It kind of feels like Selby, Robertson and Trump are all hunting Williams down in 5th and it does feel inevitable that he'll lose out to at least 1, possibly 2 and maybe even all 3 when all is said and done.

I personally don't think Allen quite has the game to really be considered as an all time great but we will see!

            • Didn't manage to watch the last few frames. I could sense Robertson was trying to make it a long game, with his usual slowing down and over thinking tactics, knowing full well how many games trump has played, over the last 3 weeks.

I wasn't surprised to see the Aussie win in the end, the standard wasnt great all day, and Roberson has a better experience and history of such games.

Trump shouldn't be so hard on himself. Yes he'll be devastated to lose another UK final, but I think his dominanting form has been his biggest enemy tonight. He is literally running on empty and should consider pulling out of the next two events and get ready for the masters, unless he wants to make himself ill.

              • That was a great final, that's what I watch Snooker for

Good to see winning Robertson another big title again, despite I'm not even a fan. Since 2015 he only got this one and the 2019 China Open. I think it was a throughly deserved one as he was the best player of this tournament.
Kudos to Trump as well. He really showed again that he has matured. Sure, he sometimes goes for some wild shots still, but overall his shot selection and the consistency of his safety game have increased so much.

I think it's fair to say that those two are right now the best two players in the world.

                  Yeah.
I have Hendry over O'Sullivan and probably Selby over Williams as well as White over Murphy and maybe Ding. But that are the small changes you will always have to those lists.
It's easier to rank them in tiers and then I'd say:

                  Tier 1:
                  Hendry
                  O'Sullivan
                  Davis
                  Higgins

                  Tier 2:
                  Selby
                  Williams

                  Tier 3:
                  Robertson
                  Trump
                  White
                  Ding
                  Murphy
                  Doherty
                  Ebdon

And to me Robertson sits quite firmly on the top of the 3rd tier. And it's likely Trump and Robertson separate from the other guys in that group.

                  • Well that was indeed the most dramatic final I have seen live during my time watching snooker surpassing the Higgins-William UK final (have only been watching since 2004). In fact I was pleasantly surprised because I just expected Century after century which I personally find a tad boring.

Shame there wasn't a crowd. Although Judd is probably thankful for that.

Feel bad for Judd but he did great and it was a big ask to win the UK after winning two titles already this season with such a packed schedule. Will be interesting to see what his response will be after losing such a close final.

I am wondering now at what point Selby/Robbo will actually go into decline? Robbo is possibly better atm than he ever has been at 38. He will be desperate to win another's worlds.

I'm almost ashamed to admit I grew very bored towards the end. Don't know if it was the late finish, the lack of a crowd, or my mood. Maybe it was all three but at 9-9 I hit record and watched a couple episodes of Red Dwarf instead. Once I'd finished watching RD I fast forwarded the snooker to the final few shots just to see who won.

It's hard to pot balls with a Chimpanzee tea party going on in your head

Being such an intense match as it was keeping the level of concentration needed in the top flight I can only imagine after a 6 hour slog he just lost concentration, good to see Judd in scottish open, I wonder why Neil dropped out, probably too knackered.
Snooker is a game of simple shots played to perfection, Joe Davies

Watching it live, I said to myself, he's just got down on that, no shot routine at all. Saw him interviewed today and he said he rushed it and should have just stood back a second.
