  • Ronnie going on about not practicing ,can’t be bothered , just enjoy knocking the balls about ,trying to be edgy in interviews ,biting tips off on tv etc etc ,is just his way of dealing with the fact he is no longer the man to beat .Really at 45 years old he’s getting to look a bit pathetic .The most alarming thing is the amount of easy balls he misses this season ,not to mention a very iffy long game .

Sure, more academy type venues may work regionally, but in terms of town to town, they would only alienate the majority of players, myself included, who enjoy playing on any club quality table as long as it set up level. It's like football. Most people don't aspire beyond Sunday league, and don't bemoan not playing at Wembley each week.
sure but i've seen plenty of kids and teenagers and young adults who'd be very keen to get familiarisation with a pro set - up , a lot of folk don't realise the difference between pro and club table's , if this awareness and realisation was more well known they'd appreciate the finer aspects of the game more like....snookers , safety , not taking any shot for granted , it being a discipline in many ways , what good do these streams of crap tables do for anyone other than pensioners in the middle of the afternoon , its a different game , a different world almost , i'd bet the interest is there but its almost an institutionalised thing that the facility isn't available .

Still getting to 2 finals this season and current World Champion. Not bad for a guy who doesn't practice much.

Obviously he can play, we all know this. But he simply has no class and often shown that he has no respect for most players. Also his recent attitude of often just smashing around when being snookered is in stark contrast to the meaning of Snooker.

Really wished Li would have won yesterday. He also had a bit of bad luck with the run of balls (bad split, red in the pocket when playing colour, etc.), but also his safety game cost him in the end.
yeah hard not to agree , also li hang would have won if his long potting was better , it was poor , he benefits from the game being so closed or in - house where only a limited number of players get any experience of pro conditions , genius my arsenal .

he probably practices more now than he ever did in matches themself thanks to these tournaments that end sunday night and start again monday morning , why would you go anywhere when you're getting paid with tons more experience than most of the rest

            • Selby's to lose now. 9-4 I think he'll see it home. Ronnie's behaviour has become somewhat.... eccentric!

There is truth in both these posts, its a sad thing, but all great champions will some day start to loose their form with age. Its how they deal with it ultimately that people will remember. Personally I would rather cede with some good grace like stars such as Tom Watson or Roger Federer.

                • Selby will be 6-3 up in final head to heads if he wins this. I think only Trump has a better record against ROS (7-3).

Anyone else finding these tournaments a bit too predictable and the same old same old , the seven tournaments so far this season 6 of the finals have been contested by 6 of the top 9 ranked players and the one that wasn’t the number one lost in the semi final , i mean in this final we have one millionaire playing another for 70k , two players we’re tired seeing over the last decade , and they start another tournament approx 12 hours later for another hundred grand in a sport / game that can’t attract sponsorship anyway . < yawn >
This is the same for all sports though. Finals tend to be dominated by the best. Look at tennis as a good comparison.

I do think snooker needs some new blood though.

i think in snookers case it just needs to be opened up to all , no more q school just pay an entrance fee either to join the tour or to enter any event , someone as good as zhao xintong just gone through his wiki page has only got past the 4th round three times in the nine years he's been in or around the tour , just flood more youths into the game to change the scenery , i think its the only way .

                      • Well, that was easy.

Mark played good, very good indeed, but far from perfect. Just consistently very good.
Ronnie didn't give it too much attention, just too much attention seeking, too much tip talk. And that's why Ronnie is considerably the best, but not the greatest snooker player of all time, it's as simple as that.

"Kryten, isn't it round about this time of year that your head goes back to the lab for retuning?"

                            • Only a matter of time until Williams' record of 22 ranking titles is caught. Selby, Robertson and Trump all on 19.

If you go just 3 years back. Trump was around but considered to be underachieving and Wilson not really a top 4 or 5 player, so new blood has come around and some of the young chinese players are getting close now.
