      • So happy Yan won, not because of any ill-feeling for John, but because he's been there and got the t-shirt. This was Yan's moment and it was great to see.

The last frame was horribly tense. John was torturing Yan like a cat with a half-dead mouse, even though he was the one who was half-dead.

        • Absolutely chuffed for Yan, plenty of time for him to grow into the game, so hopefully this is just a stepping stone.

          The fast and the furious,
          The slow and labourious,
All of us, glorious parts of the whole!

            • Pleased for Yan and great to see his girlfriend there with him. Lucky guy! Not sure why it needed translating during the presentation because his English would have been good enough. Historic moment and nice to see him celebrating. Sad for John and if he had played the same way against Ronnie it could have been very one sided but that form deserted him. It must be hard to play at that level for several days in a row and keep that stamina especially at his age. It would be nice to see John Higgins retire on a high and I hope the BBC makes him an offer he can't refuse. He joked that he hasn't thought about pundit work because of his strong Scottish accent but I think he could make a good commentator. I just want to hear Higgins and Hendry doing commentary together.

That's why I do it so well. I'm the O'Sullivan of the moaning world.

Me too. Glad to see Yan pick up the trophy (yes...it's pretty heavy ). What an amazing young player he is. Sad for John but he made some big mistakes.

                  • That was some thriller yesterday. And while I was sad that Higgins missed the chance for another big title (his last one was the 2015 International Championship) it was equally good to see Yan lifting his first important trophy. Especially the way he did it, stealing all the close frames from John. This was such a mature and mentally strong performance, incredible for a 20-year old. And honestly this in sports is the most important thing at the top. So I think this was really another statement that Yan will be among the top players for quite a time. Especially since with 20 years you are far from being a complete player, we saw this with Trump.
Yan has areas to improve on, especially his scoring, but he really has much time to do so.

I think Higgins will have a nightmare from going in-off from the black in the 13th frame. Really should have gone to a 8-5 lead there. He never recovered from this.

He certainly does have much time to improve as you stated , remember that yellow he slammed into the middle right from baulk and forced the white down to the cluster , an amazing shot under any conditions but for Yan to do it there at that moment was incredible. Do you remember when he first appeared on the scene wearing the red tartan 3 piece suit and the black and white shoes? He has come a long way

                      • John was very warm in his praise of Yan's performance. He must have felt his opportunities for winning another Masters or Worlds are quite limited at 45+ and this was his time . That in off on the black into the bottom right will not haunt him for just a very long time , it will haunt him for the rest of his life as he will be constantly reminded of it as Jimmy is constantly reminded he appeared in 6 World finals without nailing one down . Life is a biaaatch

Haha, yeah. Wasn't this his outfit at his first World Championship as well?

Always liked his attitude though. Seemed so tactical clever and always soo calm. Occasionally he goes for some odd risky shots, which don't seem to fit with his usual game, though. Mostly then he also strikes the ball a bit too hard. But I noticed Selby does this as well. And I think both at those moments have evualated the situation well and feel that it's worth the risk.

Well at least Higgins has 4 World titles. So I think it's not a comparable haunt with Jimmy never being world champion.
I'd rather say Hendry's quite easy missed black at the middle in the 1998 masters final decider against Williams would feel more similiar.

Yes indeed and Hendry was reminded of it again last night on BBC coverage with the video of it also , he tried to laugh it off but you could see it still hurts !

One of my all-time favourite matches that, I can't believe it was nearly a quarter of a decade ago.
