General sigh of relief from all the Sheffield contenders, John Higgins has not brought his Platinum game to the table. He is not firing on all 12 cylinders , not even on 11 . But maybe he will warm into his game ?

That missed cut red with the rest into the green pocket probably cost him frame 2, undercut it by quite a bit too.

This schedule is a bit mad isn't it? Some matches split by just one session, others like Walden v McGill with 4 sessions separating their two halves. Surely they could make things a little more even.

maybe maguire would have been a better player if he didn't win the uk so early in his career and maybe he should knock practicing with Higgins on the head too , he needs to work on grafting and not think about winning ' grand slams '

Yeah, looks like we're about to lose our first seed. No show from Mags so far tonight.

Difficult to see how you could nurture consistency like that isn't it.

So Steve, that's you're runner up gone.

yes bit of a forgettable day today , McGill v walden wasn't bad , lisowski will probably need to have a decent long pot percentage tomorrow and wouldn't mind seeing Wilson g beating Wilson k

Yes I enjoyed McGill Walden, looking forward to it's conclusion. Should be a better day tomorrow, I see the Wilsons are having to play their entire match in one day while others get a day and a half rest between sessions, seems unfair to me.

both wilson's would probably prefer the 19 frames in one day though , what's the benefit in waiting around , in early finishes like this they should wheel out Allan Taylor or someone for impressions and a knockabout , Taylor could probably do with the money too

Maybe, but I still think it should be more of a level playing field for all.

yes but there's probably no way around it trying to minimize early finishes like tonight at only a two table venue ,the cruce itself is a holdover from the 70's I suppose , bit like the guild hall but that's bigger , play it in Preston instead , why not
