I was going to post something similar .

Maybe I’m getting over sensitive in my old age but it doesn’t sit well with me when forum members ridicule a guy who is a snooker player like themselves who they have never met .

I really hope he doesn’t look on here and see the ‘friendly’ welcome he would get as a member and this is coming from people who have never competed at that level.

I was hoping this forum wasn’t like the other one i looked at but there has been a couple of things recently that has started to change my mind.

I know a number of players that played in Q school , all of them the same standard as Billy . Great club players , totally dedicated but would do very well to get to the latter stages of the events . They even won a few matches between them , but none of them would become pro players .
They all play for the love of the game and I suppose a chance to play an ‘established’ name .

I see Ross Muir has got through with another ton. I hope he qualifies as he seems to have been one of the better more consistent players over these Q school events .

His family wanted him to pursue a career as a classical pianist , at which he was highly gifted . He went down 4 -2 to Craig Steadman a couple of days ago and has lost a lot more matches than he wins in recent times. Q School is a hard school

That's a story the press got hold of really. Luo Honghau switched from piano to snooker when he was about 10 or 11, so never really seriously worked towards a career as a pianist. He had a section on the BBC when he qualified for the worlds a couple of years ago where he played some piano, and he wasn't all that. Decent snooker player though, and he's still very young so lots of opportunities to come. Getting whitewashed by Shaun Murphy at the worlds probably set him back a little confidence wise

I had got to the 9th level. I had and still have the ability to get to the 10th but I didn’t really have the time to take the test, because of snooker."

Yeah , that drubbing by Shaun Murphy set him back . He had Ronnie under pressure in a quarter final a few years ago but Ronnie fouled the reds pack with the X of the rest. Nobody noticed at the time. Ronnie said he felt nothing. Ronnie offered to replay the match . Think it was a 9 framer

Yeah, I saw that. It is BS really. In england there are 8 grades for classical music. You don't magically become a professional at grade 8. I went to specialist music school from age 12 and then to university to do my music degree at 18. In the former, most people attending had their grade 8 by 13, but maybe 1% or less of those is now making a living as a concert pianist/violinist etc. In China it is even tougher. Every kid learns violin or piano, like kids learn recorder in the UK. I did the Chinese Suzuki method from age 7-12, and it wasn't much different from the english grades system. There were a few very young chinese pianists at the school I went to, and they had their grade 8 at age 7 or 8. Not saying the guy isn't a good pianist, but much like in snooker there is a very big different from playing to a 'professional' standard and having what it takes to be a pro.

Yes I think worldsnooker needs to consider other ways to qualify or maybe open the tour for all. It?s no god news for the future of snooker, but it?s very easy to understand that they try to get back with the money involved today. A good run at the shoot out and your bills are payed for a year to come, and that?s basicly a tournament nearly all on the tour can win.

i think they're just an enterprise aiming at profits and they don't care how poorly run or without any foresight they appear to have as long as sufficient profit is made , i mean every donkey knows that ng on yee won't win a match on tour you're just supposed to throw your brain out the window , different to football of course with the fans and media uproar that caused the super league to be cancelled but snooker isn't nearly as big as football and thats the way they like it i suppose.
