In my opinion the sport hasn't been dominated since.
If we look across all sports it's incredibly rare that anybody has more than a decade of dominance. I follow MotoGP and have been a huge Valentino Rossi fan and his dominance of the 2000's or naughties wasn't replicated in the 2010's.
I think sportspeople lose their edge, subconsciously losing their driven motivation that led them to greatness. I think Hendry let things like his divorce, his cue being damaged, Doyle's departure become an easy way out of the sport and ultimately he lost his drive and began to enjoy the celebrity Stephen Hendry more than being the winning one.
Yes, completely agree to all of that after the read. And I don't blame Stephen one bit for losing his drive after 10 years of being the best in the world, his personality developed and he started to enjoy other elements of life and that was healthy.

I felt there was a sadness towards the end of the book that his career ended earlier than he and his fans would have liked, but to borrow some words from a poet " Tis better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all" And I'm not sure the 7 WC titles will be beaten any time soon so his Legacy is still strong.

I don’t think 7 world titles will be Beaton or equalled,Ronnie missed the boat on that one as I don’t think he has the concentration any more for a 17 day event with some match’s over 3 days .Davis and Hendry style dominance of a whole decade I don’t think we will see again either ,too many good players to spoil the party these days .It’s hard to lump Joe Davis in with any sort of dominance like Hendry or Steve Davis as in his day no one really played snooker and some years there were only two entrants .As great as Joe was and we all have him to thank for the game ,he had no competition really .

Yes, agree again Mikee and although I admire Hendry and Davis, I like many others did get bored with their dominance, no matter how impressive it was!! You only have to look at Trump who managed to dominate for about a season and is now struggling to keep ahead of the pack to see your right

I think/hope in this new era we are enterering now, there will be multiple World Champions and some epic battles. I hope the likes of Luca could pick one up on a good fortnight to keep a balance between flair and technical brilliance.

Personally I think peoples expectations of the standard that the senior tour will be played at is too high. There is no way you can compare the normal tour standard to this comp and I think that’s what some people are doing . Either that or comparing how a player used to be to how they play now. It’s just not what this comp is about.
Personally I think the main interest is watching those amateurs who are relative unknowns who went thorough the qualifiers to get a chance to play against some pros albeit not top ones or against a legend of the game.
They get their chance to play in a televised match on the BBC which is something that you can’t underestimate as an amateur player. This is even more apparent in the Worlds where you get the likes of Gary Filtness last year crying due to fulfilling a dream of playing at the Crucible…… That’s the essence of this comp for me and not how previous legends of game standard has dropped.

I think your missing the point if you think it is

I think we all recognise the standard is going to be crap, can't expect John Parrott to turn up and make century breaks after not playing for so long. I think criticisms of Ken, Hendry, Jimmy and any other current tour pro are fair especially with some of them being given tour cards at other's expense.
Agree about Gary Filtness etc I made a point earlier in the thread that this tournament feels soulless but those players do show the true essence of the seniors. It's great to see the likes of Wayne Cooper performing well, good regional players given the chance to play on the TV. I'm looking forward to doing the same in future .... when old enough

Poor old Jimmy just can't seem to buy any good running, kick on the black in the decider lets Lilley in for the win, shame. I only saw the last frame as I'd just got home from work so don't know if he should have won it earlier, but if something can go wrong then it invariably does, I feel for him sometimes I really do.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

How did he react after getting beat ?. He was gutted the last time he lost against Lilley.

Looked like he was trying to get out of there when Rob collared him with the microphone! He looked gutted but sounded OK, gracious in defeat I thought, he blamed a couple of key moments but admitted the better player won on the day bla bla bla…. Then he shot off!

                            Thanks Steve .
I guess Jimmy is getting used to be gracious in defeat since he had his wild card

I think Hendry taught him to be gracious, didn't give him much option mind!

Being gracious in defeat is not something I would link Hendry with especially when he was early on his career
