I fancy Chris Wakelin to qualify this year, easy'ish match against the winner of Jake Crofts and Jamie Wilson who're both young kids then Fan Zhenghyi. Then quite likely Chris or Jimmy Robertson to progress.

Will Liang Wenbo be replaced in the world qualifiers now he has been suspended from all snooker tournaments by World Snooker until further notice, and if so who will replace him and will everyone move up a place in the seedings, I.E. will Zhao Jianbo now go into the second rd as the N0 80 seed and Scott Donaldson into the 3rd round as the N0 seed 48 or will the player who wins through to play receive a bye into the final qualifying round.

Think it would be a bye. Draw has been published now.

yes I think it will be a bye; if Liang's match had been R1 then they could have slotted the next person in the Lists of amateurs, but in R3 a bit difficult to do so, and unfair to those working their way up the rounds

It would have been easy to have slotted the next highest ranked amateur in for the years 2014 to 2019 when it was flat 128’s for the first three qualifying rounds for players ranked 17 - 144 but not since 2020 when it went back to being tiered again.

hm? I thought that the World Championship has always been tiered as it is now, at least for many years including those you mention - I recall Barry Hearn saying that he would not change WSC when he started changing format (like the flat 128).
But hey, it would be difficult for a R3 insertion of a new player

                    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_W...hip#Qualifying

64 winners in round one , also look at the following year , ding played ireland’s greg casey in the first round

                    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_W...hip#Qualifying

I got the year they switched to flat 128’s wrong though , it was 2015 not 2014

i think hearn's statement was about not reducing frames , which subsequently has been reduced , i dont think he would have said anything about tier's , that would have been too advanced for a press statement i think.
