The season he didn't play and just turned up would be my idea of his best WC win, I took everything he did and said with a pinch of salt in this year's s because he was filming that documentary, that hugging Judd at the end was clearly for the documentary, even Judd was putting on a bit of an act at the end, was bizarre to watch

        • How do you define best? In terms of his own performance? He's talked before about feeling pretty untouchable in 2013, but I think I would probably have to go with 2004. Worst was 2020 by far.

I don't know. Maybe the year he was almost un-playable?

Thats probably partly true , but also the fact that many top players weren’t on form ,apart from Williams .Sounds a bit odd saying that with the amount of centuries and a 147 ,but the consistency over these long matches with the top boys was missing I thought .

I was asking if he was during the entire WC any year.

personally no i dont think he or anyone has ever been unplayable , that would be ' genius ' in its proper sense , sorry imo we've never seen that.

                        • 2013 had some very convincing results, but the SF performance against Trump wasn't that great as far as I remember. 2008 was good, all convincing victories also, even though his long game was kind of missing in that Championship. 2004 had a close one against Hicks, and then basically three wins with a session to spare from the QF onwards. I don't know... it was a long time a ago, so it's difficult to make a fair comparison now. I did feel like he wasn't going to lose that Championship in a million years though. I didn't have that strong feeling this year, or any other time really.

I think I would agree with Odrl that 2004 was overall probably his best performance.
But he wasn‘t unplayable in the way that he was unbeatable if he would have had a strong opponent like Hendry probably was in one of two years in the 90s.

He beat Hendry 17-4 in 2004 IIRC. I did not see that match. Was Hendry having the yips then?

Yes Hendry was done and dusted by then ,losing the cue two years before and then the Devil on his shoulder telling him he couldn’t win much any more .
