While Maguire was away, the referee and Murphy spoke before tournament director Mike Ganley arrived on the scene and docked Maguire a frame for technically not being ready to start at the scheduled time, which angered and surprised Maguire. Murphy refutes that the docking of the frame was down to him speaking to the referee. Maguire won the match 5–2 and later commented: "Rules are rules but I've never heard of anything like that happening before"
    Thank you.

Williams was superb yesterday, I've never seen him string so many big breaks together, it seems to me that he's using a somewhat softer tip than usual giving him greater cue ball control, sounds like it anyway as the strike isn't so harsh.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

Robertson starts with a century already. I think his match against Hugill might be the most onesided in this years World Championship.
And I know Zhao beat Clarke 10-2.

Williams seems to be punching balls in more than usual.
"Kryten, isn't it round about this time of year that your head goes back to the lab for retuning?"

I stand corrected already as Hugill storms into a 3-1 lead. My apologizes to Ashley. Maybe this teachs me again to avoid such stupid totally premature predictions.

Is there some tension between Rob Walker and Ronnie ? At the start of Sunday afternoons sessions Rob introduced Mark J, Liam and David Gilbert, and stepped forward to shake their hand. After he then introduced Ronnie I'm sure Rob just walked straight past him, and neither acknowledged the other. Then in the post match interview Ronnie appears to be having a joke at Rob's expense by wearing glasses. What's going on ? I find Rob's pre session introductions a bit tiresome at times, but he's genuinely trying to engage the crowd in the matches they are going to see. He's no more tiresome than Ronnie constantly criticising WS, saying he'd sooner not play, then turning up for most of the events anyway.

There’s tension between Ronnie and almost everybody else. . .

At least Lyu got back to 3-6. That was one of the first rounders I had hoped to be close.

Nice clearance, wasn't it? Still, Bingham is unlikely to be affected that much. He is fully in control.

I've actually been quite pleasantly surprised by the standard of breakbuilding so far, quite a few players scoring really well. Usually it's more of a struggle in the 1st round.

                    • Ronnie could possibly be fined.

                      • The horror.

I've had a look, he did indeed make a lewd gesture, clearly frustrated after a bad miss. Victimless crime, but I guess a symbolic fine is coming anyway.

How much of a fine did Maflin get for that missed 147 attempt?
                          Up the TSF! :snooker:

                          • Did anybody watch Ronnie in Eurosport's aftermatch section rave about how unimaginably great China is and how soon it will rule the world culturally and economically (he avoided to say politically, I think) and everybody needs to accept this and that the Worlds should move to China...?

He keeps saying that and I kinda got used to it, but that worship-and-bow-down approach yesterday had a new, pronounced urgency to it. That felt odd, to say the least.

If they really wanted to move the WC, they should go to Ally Pally and move the Masters to the Crucible.
                            "That pocket moved!"

I heard it and I found it terribly wrong. You can worship chinese players and chinese development in Snooker, but saying how great China is, especially economically (which anyways isn't necessarily positive, though I know he thought about possible prize money) is moralically not only highly questionable, but just wrong, when you know a bit about their repression of minorities or some other problems.
