  • good effort by mcgill but its like the terminator model 101 vs the t - 1000 , he'll need to play a near faultless display tomorrow evening to stand any chance.

    • Lisowski should have made sure to finish the session 6 10 not 7 9 . With a four frame lead he would have a good chance . I fear Robertson will chew up the 2 frame deficit tomorrow and just check out into the distance. Robertson was vulnerable and weak today and not punished ENOUGH . Un Nooh scenario all over again . Hope I am very much wrong about this

yeh, agreed. A good performance but he’s left a window open there.
hopefully Ebdons advice will see him through. I really like Jacks character. Lovely lad.

I've not seen a replay but I doubt Yan was joking because he wasn't smiling and it seems out of character for him to make a joke at that point. I think he might have chosen that story because the ref refused his request but it was clear he was thinking of a swerve shot so I think the ref was a bit quick to deny his request.

What are the rules for a referee when a player asks for the cue ball to be cleaned and the ref refuses it? I would have thought the ref will clean the cue ball as soon as the shot is taken but Yan had to ask again a few shots later before the ref cleaned the cue ball.

i dont know what the rules are about the ref refusing a players request to clean the cue ball but if you replay the bbc coverage the ref said something like ' not in this situation ' or ' not there no ' and then joe perry said that he agreed with the ref in that situation where micrometers are at stake , yes i agree it did seem a bit lame for yan to say afterwards that he was joking , i didnt buy the joking comment at all , i'm not saying he's a cheat but i just think its possibly programmed into players in that situation to ask for the cue ball to be cleaned and they can use a bit of ambiguity and innocence with english as their second language to say that they were joking just as a way of keeping their english short for convenience.

            • I did think he was joking when I was watching it live. What's the point of having the cue ball cleaned anyway? If the pot is just about on, with absolutely no margin for error, why would you think cleaning the cue ball would move it into a favourable position for you rather than the other way around?

              • Just to say that IIRC Selby has done exactly the same and on TSF we had the same conversation - IIRC one time the ref did clean the cue ball, the other did not.
                Up the TSF! :snooker:

                • I heard the ref when Yan asked for it to be cleaned and he very quickly said "no not on this occasion" or something to that effect. It seemed unfair and the ref should at least ask why. The cue ball was also in the open so the ref could easily use the ball marker and the shot on needed side which Yan used to make the pot. That situation is a tough call but in hindsight I think the ref should have given the request more consideration instead of instantly saying no. It's like the ref was refusing the request outright because he thought it was an attempt to try to gain an advantage and I'm sure that was the last thing Yan was thinking.

My issue is with how quickly the ref refused the request and then didn't clean the cue ball after the pot but I've not seen a replay.

Was scared he'd pop his clogs on the baize before!

Those flukes certainly β€˜poked the lion’ if the next couple of sessions are any clue. John didn’t seem too delighted about getting clattered by Noppon, either, when he was too busy celebrating to the crowd to watch where was going

Because people just hope for it and don't think rational in that situation.

When I watched it I didn't think he meant it as a joke, but it's absolutely possible. Rather I think he wanted just have more time to think about it.

However I don't care much about it. I would hope Higgins finishs this match soon, so Eurosport would change to the interesting match.

                          • This reminds of the Wilson - Robertson quarterfinal last year, just that Wilson is the other role.
Both were tied at 8-8 after the first two sessions and I was waiting for a real thrilling cracker in the last session and then Wilson won all the first five frames of the decisive session to defeat Robertson 13-8.

Not much of one tbh eh. Thought Kyren was pretty poor this afternoon. Seemed to resort to bashing the white hard again and missed a big target of splitting reds at least twice.

I still feel he lacks a bit of finesse when it’s needed under pressure.

Well if you don't have the room for your usual two step pre shot routine that gets you on the line of aim then you're not going to like the venue that prevents you from playing at your best.
