I think the tables this year, particularly on table 1 have played pretty poor. Pockets are playing much tighter on this one compared to the other side, all the breaks coming on other half of the draw. I've noticed more players catching the blue off break this year than any other as well, a sign the cloth is not reacting well to spin, cushions squaring up when they normally slide, balls not really breaking well going into the pack. Its enough for anyone's game to crumble and timing to go.

Basically we need more competition from better cloth manufacturers and table fitters to up their game, standards been slipping recently.

I think its absolutely nailed on for Ronnie to equal Hendry's 7th. Sounds a bit daft but its almost like a fix the way the form and results have worked out. O'Sulivan never had an easier passage or run to the semi's. Nobody left in playing well, he's basically going to walk it. Possible record final victory beating Davis 18-3 anyone?

Quality is NOT to be compromised for money. A note for WST and Star.

Absolutely. It saddened me to hear that WST have signed a new 10 year deal with Star to supply the tables this week. Laughable to say that they see them as the best snooker tables and pretty certain that someone received a nice little back hander to secure this deal. The real shame is there isn't really any competition around, they have a monopoly on the equipment and as we see to often, standards slip when there is nothing to keep them keen

I don't see it. His form is nowhere near imho.

Yeah, that's what I think, too. Still hoping for MJW to preserve the form he showed in his first two matches into a possible final, but I sense he's already deteriorating. If he is, maybe Yan might be able to "torture" Ronnie enough to lose his nerves.

                  • I agree it's looking like a decent chance for O'Sullivan, but his winning 18-3 in the final is a little crazy. I can't see Trump losing by that scoreline, for instance, even though he was awful for most of this morning. The thing is, O'Sullivan isn't playing all that well himself. Should have lost the first session 6-2 to Maguire rather than winning it, but it's easy to play if the opponent isn't there. Higgins is going to be the real test. And that goes for Higgins too, beating Un-Nooh, Saengkham and Lisowski is one thing, but O'Sullivan is going to be a different story.

                    • Bingham might have missed a trick there. Think Trump would have pretty much rolled over at 9-5

I can’t disagree we need more competition with the tables and cloths .
Table conditions though have nothing to do with timing issues which is purely technical and mental. Those tables are made for break building and if a table is playing a bit slower or tighter a pro at this level should be able to overcome any difference . It’s not like they are playing on a club table on that particular table

I‘m afraid it’s looking a bit that way. But actually if they meet each other in the semis I‘d make Higgins the (slight) favourite against Ronnie even though John isn‘t playing that well himself. But he is the better allaround player and usually has played well against O‘Sullivan. I feel its nearly that way, that while most players are awed when facing Ronnie he himself has more respect in this matchup than the other way around.

                              • if Yan beats Williams, hes going to be hard to beat himself. I dont think Ronnie will enjoy playing him so its far from Rons grasp yet.
