Just watched it again and still can’t see any reason why he didn’t, strange ..
I always play thin cuts with running side, aim 1/4 ball and the cue ball swerves across the cloth to make a thinner contact and any risky in off is negated by running side becoming check side off the far jaw, although sunday night I had one wobble in the pocket and go in off in the opposite pocket 😢

You can’t plan for every eventuality 😄

I mostly play blacks off their spot with some sort of side even if it’s minimal on both cut backs and when high on the black . Once you can control the side around that area it opens up all sorts of positional and break building possibilities .

Never thought about the use you highlighted though 👍

It was frame ball final black, a thin cut in the middle, green side of the table playing towards baulk, almost certain in off in the green pocket. The running side (left hand) became checkside on the far jaw which kept it out but it went along the baulk cushion and dropped in the yellow pocket, ouch!
Billiards experience showing there as in billiards you play with running side to take the cue ball into the pocket, so check keeps it out but as you said you can't allow for everything.

Pretty impressive win there for Anthony Hamilton , he was on the verge of going 3 nil down then O Connor snookered himself on the potting angle of the last red , then Hamilton won that and eventually won the match. Interesting why Stephen Hendry can't get any kind of duplication of Hamilton's level of wins , they're both the same type of players.

well done to Steve Hallworth - amateur top up IIRC, making the most of the opportunity, I wish I could have kept watching the match last night, but was getting too late even for me
                      Up the TSF! :snooker:

I am no expert. This is what I think though. The sheriff has been on tour without any major breaks season after season unlike Hendry who left competitive snooker many years ago and came back recently. Maybe his match sharpness is lost.

Too much self doubt and changing his technique isn’t going to help either.

Nice max from Selby, with a cheeky treble to boot.

Blimey, Jack's so upset with his cue, he's setting fire to it! Never seen anyone taking a flame to their tip before, wouldn't that dry your tip out?

I used to do that many moons ago to take out any fibres sticking out that might distract me while cueing. I don't do it anymore.
