I don't really buy all of it, I think he's pretty much checked out of winning much at high level snooker. Before this match (and before the back trouble) he said in the pre-match interview that his only chance of winning was if Trump played badly. Then he's popping up as a pundit on the BBC mid-tournament. And the back thing seems exaggerated- when my back goes, at least, there's zero chance I'm getting down on the shot for a couple of days, whatever painkillers I'm on. I really wish he'd just focus 100% on playing snooker, because he's one of my favourites. He really needs to sort out his mindset and focus, unless of course he's already on the wind down.

I wonder if it’s the be weight loss that’s helping Murphy’s game . Not so much from a physical point of view although that must help with longer matches etc . I’m taking more from a positive mind set about the way he looks and feels .
I think it’s definitely changed Mark Allen for the better.

Anyway, great result for Murphy . When he is on it he is better than his current ranking.

I completely agree Mark .

If you listen to him on his podcast he always makes out he expects to get beat early etc. Its a defensive mechanism that he deploys after a crap last season.
Hopefully with some more positive results that will filter to his attitude as well.
It wasn’t that long ago he made the final of the Worlds playing great snooker .

As good a player as Murphy is and he comes over well when he speaks ,the guy has an agenda and poor form against his fellow players .I think Murphy is the sort of guy that if you mentioned something to him in confidence he’d stab you in the back .He played well in those last three frames and deserved to win ,Trump took defeat well and admitted he was out played in those later frames .
