Interesting to hear that statement from Wilson. It shows the pro’s also struggle with the same things that club players struggle with .
I bet a few people on here who solo practice recognize that mental issue.
You could see he changed to a more natural way of playing after the first mid session break in his semis. Up to that point he was struggling .
Exactly. It was a very candid interview, you could see that this indecision really messes with his head at times. And as you say, kind of reassuring to see it's not just us plebs that struggle with it.

The fast and the furious,
The slow and labourious,
All of us, glorious parts of the whole!
When you talk about Wilson's approach INE, do you mean his professional and practice regimes are a bit sporadic and unstructured, or is it a more general observation of his up and down form? Cheers mate.
I can't say about his day to day practice routine, I only see him at comps. It's more his thoughts on his own game. Gary is such a nice lad and very open and honest but he moans about his game more than me and that's saying something.
Obviously it's a mind thing and I think that's what I mean by not knowing his own game, I hope that makes some sort of sense. Joe O'connor comes across as a settled in the mind player, he knows his own game and plays to it, Gary maybe over thinks things.
O'Connor is tending to pot and miss balls on the thin side, a bit of body movement, not a good sign. I think Wilson either had a word with Ronnie yesterday or took on board what he said to him in his post match interview, stop thinking. Thought is the enemy of flow.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair
Gary has always had the ability to win Pro tournaments, he just seems to let his emotions get the better of him which he never used to do when he was young, nothing fazed him back then but somewhere along the way the demons got in his head.
I really hope he can keep it together tonight as the only Geordies who ever win anything are Ant and ****** Dec

Thanks mate, that's very insightful and probably the reason he won tonight! Experience in a couple of finals and learning how to deal with the situation. Hope that Joe learns as Gary has from his experiences to go on and be a winner too, think it's definitely in him.
In his PMI the other day, he was saying that he often struggles a lot deciding whether to play with a solid practiced technique, or purely on instinct.

Thanks PB, let's hope this success helps him with that decision. I think once you've won its a little easier to draw on that experience and what you did right next time you are in that position ☺️
I didn’t see any of the evening session as I was working .
Looks like Gary played well though and congrats to him on his first ranking title.
As others have said , I hope this win sorts his head out a bit and he can kick on from this . It would be great to see these type of wins from different players on a more regular basis.
Wow. That was quite a final. I started out rooting for Joe but got a bit fed up with his slow play. Anyway, it's great to see Wilson win something again. His outburst against Higgins was disgraceful but forgivable because of his bouts with depression. Hopefully, this win will help him in more ways than just the money. I was thinking of sending him a quid or two to buy a rug but now he can afford one for himself.
It was a nice touch mentioning Stan Chambers in his interview, Stan ran the coaching on Saturday mornings for years at Wallsend Supa Snooker where Gary started out, he also done a lot of work for North East snooker for decades so it's a shame he didn't get to see his star pupil win a Pro Ranking Event, hopefully that win can inspire Slessor and other North East players

Jimmy offered him one of his syrups, think Gary politely declined
I really grudge paying 15 quid for a bit of chalk but after my practice session yesterday I’ve decided to treat myself. Call it a early Xmas present. Yesterdays practice session was frustrating. I had numerous kicks. I’ll probably only use the TOAM chalk when playing solo as from what I understand both players need to use TOAM for there to be a benefit.
PS. Can anyone see any problem, re the cue tip, if I swap backwards and forwards between normal green triangle chalk and TOAM?
Bit of an update. Bought a block of V10 TOAM for 15 quid. Had an hour solo practice today. No kicks but five mis-cues. Normally I very rarely mis-cue. Jury’s out but I think this chalk is really only for the very good players playing on good cloths. For normal club players green triangle is good enough.
