He seems a decent player, but I have my eye on Robbie McGuigan who looks to have a very good temperament along with ability!
Been watching Robbie McGuigan for a few years , he has buckets of talent , a great prospect for the future. Ben Mertens deserves a bit of luck , can't be nice playing with a constant tremor. If The Shoot-Out is embarrassing to some people here its not because of the format but because old people are generally very set in their ways. I am older than most here but I enjoy it for what it is . A bit of fun , its snookers Christmas party . Lighten up FFS .

Been watching these names in the amateurs for a long time and it is great to have an event that they can join and be on TV and get to play pro players.
Ben's tremor, yesterday I thought it was the pressure being on the table; you say it is a constant, more than Selby's swaying, all I say is he plays very well with it and good luck to him

Yes I love the way he just gets on with it, no lamenting or ahhs when he misses just goes about his business, he's been tipped as a player that stands a good chance of getting on tour and being from Antrim he gets to practice with Jordan Brown, which will stand him in great stead. Hope he gets his chance. Agree about the Shootout, my opinion has always been that if it helps bring snooker to new viewers because it's different then that can only be a good thing for the game!

I’m not that keen on the shoot out but it’s only a few days once a year ,it’s all a bit of luck and a lottery much of the time but it could just kick start some young players chance of getting higher up the rankings with points available .If it brings the odd new player into the game then it’s a good thing .
As it's not on mainstream UK tv then I can't watch it, not that I would to be honest. The format is ok by me but I can't stand the drunken louts in the crowd, instant arsehole just add alcohol, grew up with them, affected my life in a major way and I avoid them now. There are better drugs for you and that's a fact despite them being illegal.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair
There is nothing better than watching players who have practiced all their lives to be the best they can be, play like club players because of time pressure and drunken idiots shouting out in the crowd hoping to get their two seconds of fame on the TV.
It's quite a reflection on how society has changed, self entitled, no attention span, instant gratification and that's just Shaun Murphy, don't get me started on the crowds.

What! the god fearing self appointed disco king As for the crowd you're spot on but at least they leave their phones alone for a while and actually watch to see when 'their designated colour' is about to be potted Which one is it this year ?

Vmax/Itsnoteasy I'm sorry to say on saturday i'll absolutely be drunk but I'll keep the shouting down to a minimum and will definitely not be shouting any colours HOWEVER I will be wearing a coloured Beanie, our party of 6 are all wearing coloured hats and will be sat in order of Yellow, green, brown.... you get the gist!
This competitions a laugh, it also gives amateurs some valuable TV experience and obscure players the opportunity to win a title, i'm all for it.

let me guess, all wanted to be "Mr Beanie Black" and no one wanted to be "Mr Beanie Pink"?
Nothing wrong with a few beers ,can’t beat a few drinks and a few frames of snooker ,perfect night .
A line of coke followed by a threesome with a pair of hot female identical twins would be better or is that just me ?, oops! wrong forum

To be fair Tom you have mentioned the one redeeming factor to the shoot out, no not the coloured beanies, that fact that young players and some top amateurs get a little exposure.
