Well, it's a demonstrably low-percentage shot, so at some point you just have to accept that Vafaei is an idiot and try not to overthink it too much. Different story with Mark Williams, although I'm convinced that shot loses more than it wins as well.
What was with the break off in frame 2 from Vafaei? Looked like a 9 ball or an 8 ball break off that.
You could see he entered the match in the wrong frame of mind as though he was going into a fist fight rather than playing snooker. He seemed to settle down in frame 3 though.
Quite a few surprises today, I anticipated a really close match with Allen and Bingham and haven't watched a lot of it but you have to think Allen is a man on a mission though still has a lot of work on to reach his first final.
I'm also a little surprised that Brecel has turned up and taken control of the match against Williams. On this form he's a strong contender but I suspect he'll get carried away.
Jones proving a handful too, Robbo doesn't like slow players so that could go deep.
Ronnie you have to think has broken the back of this match in the first session. I don't see him letting up and Vafaei isn't a strong enough player to get back into that.
Foolishly I wrote Ronnie off before a ball was potted as I didn't believe he was cueing well enough to last 17 days. However I've changed my mind, I believe he'll sail towards an 8th title. He looks fresh and up for it, hitting the ball well, it's whether anyone can play lights out snooker to stop him. Allen and Kyren probably the only ones who could.
Just admiring Luca's play, thank god no-one coached that style away from him and we get to watch it. I noticed the way he twists the cue on the back swing and through the shot (you see the grain on his cue turn) it's like a rifle action and maybe why he gets so much easy action on the ball.
