They will look back at this in horror at the players they've become. Its like watching two old men that used to be really good potters and breakbuilders playing frames as if they give the other a sniff of a chance its frame over, despite the fact neither are scoring much when they do get a chance.
People keep saying snooker would be boring if everyone played the same. Yes that is true, but also the game would be dead if we had a few more Allen's or Selby's on the circuit too. Sadly these two have realised this is the most annoying and frustrating style to play against for their opponents, hence why they are where they are in the game. Allen has been a boring player for a while, its quite a while since he exhibited any flair. As for Selby, I don't mean to sound horrible, but he plays snooker like someone that suffers from mental health, in fact I'd say that the way he plays either caused his mental health issues, or his mental health is why he plays the way he does. Its all about winning and nothing else, he doesn't care if the frames are 50+ minutes, that he just plays a game of patience, its just about winning. At what point do the rule makers decide that this is not good enough or entertaining for the audience or viewers and need to consider something to prevent them suffocating the game with deliberate negative and slow play. Pool had to introduce a shot clock and a ball having to hit a cushion on every shot in order to prevent stalemates, maybe snooker has to go down that route if this continues. He's already won the world champs 4 times playing this way, and he's only 39, we could have another decade of this, if the sport exists by then!
