  • It maybe has to do with his mental issues, but over the last years Selby isn‘t quite as mentally strong as in his prime years. He was nervous three years ago against Ronnie (though he wasnt playing well than as well), but also in the Final vs Murphy, When he was playing great.
Confidence has become more Important for him and it wasn‘t there today and he was overcautios, which you also saw with his cue Ball control, where he often was too short. When he has a Day with more confidence, he would have taken some chances earlier today. You can See a bit by his selection of pots how high his confidence is. Moreso than with other players as he has so many facets in his game.

This tough Semifinale could very well have cost him too much energy for the final.

      • I had to leave the match at 22.30 as it was just too slow .
Tbh , I was looking forward to the tactical battle but Selby was just being over cautious and taking ages on simple shots . This transferred to Allen as well.
I understand it’s a world semi but it was way over the top .
We went to the pub to watch it instead and glad we did considering the finish time .

Not like you to be controversial trains.

I'd love Luca to win this, but I know he'll go for one or two or three too many, which of course he has to. Should be a very interesting final, so long as Luca can keep up. Can't wait. This has been a brilliant tournament so far, for me anyway.

          The fast and the furious,
          The slow and labourious,
All of us, glorious parts of the whole!

Yeah i've enjoyed it as well mate, maybe the matches with Bingtao vs Selby, Bingtao vs Williams and Trump Williams made last years Crucible collectively better but all good all the same.

            • One very interesting stat that I just read. On all four occasions where Selby won a world title, he won his SF match 17-15. Will he be for the 5th time, a winner considering this stat?

              • Well, I enjoyed that last session quite a bit. In the end Selby managed to get over the line in time but I was surprised about the way Allen came at him during that session him to win all these frames. What did hold him back to not to play like this earlier? He seemed so much more both focused and free there. If he had managed to make it all square, I'm pretty sure he would've won the decider.

By the way, I'm 99% certain he played that yellow to move the green, it was fairly easy to do and granted him better positional play to get on the brown, which was mandatory.
                "That pocket moved!"

                • I wonder if we'll see a tired Selby on the first day again, like we did in 2014. Brecel must have gone through all the emotions in his game as well, but it wasn't nearly as draining physically. He could try to take control of the early sessions, which is something he hasn't been doing so far in this tournament. And then I would expect Selby to be stronger on Monday.

No prediction this time either, although my pre-tournament vote isn't looking too bad now.

                  • Seems like World Snooker got the start time wrong on their website. It says 13:00 local time. If I'm not mistaken, that was 9 minutes ago. Yet more amateurism to add to the tables debacle.

                    • Would love to see Luca win this but that would mean watching Selby as well, I'm out.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

There was a pretty epic moment last night when Selby walked around the table three times to check whether the two reds below the pink would pot to the right corner. Played safe in the end. Made me think of you.

I think WST want their matches to start on the time they schedule but then BBC do not start their programme till 13:00, with 10-ish minutes of waffle and then allow the players out of the gates!
If Eurosport can schedule their programme to start 12:45, then why cant BBC?
                          Come on Aunty, do better
                          Up the TSF! :snooker:

Of course I know it's not really a "mistake", but I never could quite understand why this is allowed to happen. TV coverage should be separate from tournament organisation. The match should start at the announced time. If TV wants to have studio analysis before it, they should start earlier. Or, just negotiate with the organisers for matches to start at 13:15. Doesn't bother me. But you can't announce an official start time and then not follow it.

I remember when I was getting up in the mornings to watch the Chinese events... Got up at 8, turned on the TV, and it was the players walking into the arena, without a minute's delay. It's the standard really. The only places where start times are held up because of TV seem to be the UK and America.

                            • Ah, they found a shirt with long sleeves and a tie for O'Sullivan. Maybe they were worried people would think he was a werewolf.
