I prefer this tiered qualifiers, far tighter matches on the whole in the qualifying rounds. What's the point in Judd or Ronnie playing someone ranked above 100 in a qualification round, it doesn't do either player any good.
Now the top sixteen have to face arguably the sixteen best of the rest, should be better matches.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

Yes i think there actually was 8 matches played at the same time in the earlier rounds, i dont remember anyone articulating any good reason for such a cramming especially as its the second biggest tournament on the calendar.

I think the qualifiers all have a big advantage coming in off the back of playing 2 matches and will much sharper than the seeds. I suspect we'll see a lot of seeds go out first round because of that.
I wholeheartedly agree on your point about best of 17s, but I fear we are in an ever-decreasing group of people!

Well maybe, but I'm right in there with both of you two. Ever decreasing circles in match length is not the way to go for every tourney. We need that mix and the sterner challenge of the longer matches/tourneys that have prestige and prove a player's ability over a longer run.

We all know b07 are good for lower ranked players to get one over on top 16 players and that's good to watch and good for the game and the viewers, but the cream of the crop rise to he top in longer matches. Everyone and anyone can have a bad session but over a longer run that generally evens out so the better player should come out on top.

I'd add to this that the talent pool is large right now so it's not so obvious who "should" come out on top but I still think it's a great test because this is what we have based greatness on...... The World Championship!

            Yep add me in.
It seems no one has any concentration now, games have to be short and sharp.

Hope JV is in the box this year so I can hear some decent commentary for a change and not have to mute it. I've noticed how some of the commentators who can actually play Snooker never talk tactical with certain other commentators because they wouldn't understand it.

So Ding has the yips ?

That little forward motion and halt before he delivers the cue and a fast backswing with no pause when he plays with power. Should have cost him the match today but he held it together for a final ton in the decider, handed to him by Allen though but was it a bad contact ? missed it thick which is always a sign.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

Yep, he's played like that always but it seems a little more pronounced now. He's always been a prime example of someone who could suffer from the yips with his action later in his career. His timing can be shockingly bad on those power shots. It's hard to watch tbh, my eye starts twitching along with his...

Kyren had that when he first came on the scene but no longer does it, maybe Ding could have a word in his ear.

As does Jamie apparently. What a lovely pair.

Just watch on Bet365 or BetFair, its a Hendon Studd free zone and you still get the ambient atmosphere.

Nothing can help Kryten, his only chance is, if like Pinocchio, he can manage to become a real boy....

TBH, I thought they were both dead and buried, was a bit disappointed, nearly went off to do somet'else, really glad I stuck with it. Did you see Jamie's Eurosport PMI? What a nice bloke, very self-effacing.
Really like Tom as well, but I did feel for Noppon, he played some great stuff, only to get stuffed himself. As for Kyren, well, he's "still young enough........"
