Why on earth are they using a smoke machine at a snooker tournament??

A great clearance from Gary Wilson. Just tuned in to the match when he was on the colours clearance.

I thought it was my screen that looked a bit foggy towards the baulk end of the table.

You could see it slowly dispersing through the lights when they switched to the wide shot. Odd. Maybe they have Uriah Heap on to sing a quick song during the ads.

I thought that you must win a tourney to qualify for the CoC. Jak Jones has made it based on his ‘24 World Championship final appearance. Aren’t there enough winners to enter or did some not turn up ? Not to take anything away from Jak though, he played really well today.

Multiple event winners mean they’re short of 16 so need a top-up. Think that’s the answer but not sure.

Correct, this year there are 6 players who qualified and also won multiple qualifying events; so there are two "top-ups" from the World rankings - Murphy and Brecel.

At least there is some TV coverage. The season up to now I've seen nothing at all,

I must admit I finally did do the £6.99pcm for Discovery Plus, I still have the Bet365 for the other tables often not covered - but I must admit, I did miss commentary!!

Starting to see a lot of new broadcasters covering events now

Tale of two stories this afternoon with Kyren V Luca, it's easy to see the work Wilson's been putting in because his cue ball is great right now. Luca on the other hand made quite a few elementary mistakes with his control of the white.

Maybe he's just a bit out of love with it right now....?!? Shame, love watching him play well.

Do you think Phil Yates has ever made an insightful comment during any of his snooker babble, or does it just consist of perpetual arse-licking of the players and/or other commentators?

Well done MJW. His first victory over the Warrior I heard in the commentary today.
