That's brilliant and proves it's reaching a new younger audience so doing a good job at grass roots level. 👍

The format for this just doesn't work. It's supposed to be about quick play and a more attacking game, yet the most advantageous thing a player can do is run the clock down and use the full 15/10 seconds to keep their opponent from coming back. It's ridiculous.

Maybe have it like chess, where each individual has their own clock which stops when they are not at the table?

I've seen Daniel play a few times, tidy wee player, definitely capable of winning a match, who does he play doubles with, is it Ethan Lewellyn ? I'm just guessing as they play in the same underage England team.
it didn't quite happen for him today, bit of a shame, great experience for him though.

So many empty seats? Is that because it doesn't sell well or is everyone in the bar getting sloshed?

Agree with poster earlier who said this format no longer works. Players have worked out the best formula to succeed and this has become rather a tedious watch.

Think the audience too have become bored with it as well. Off the back of an enjoyable week of snooker at the UK championship, this just feels like a poor follow up that borders on bringing the game into disrepute.

Wouldn't be surprised if they either try and change the format of this or drop it altogether next season. It's just so poor to watch.

No just teammate from his league club for this comp, a handy player but not in Daniels league! Looking forwards to it!

I would rather see a straight one frame shoot out, like the old pot black, with the next round drawn after each round, the shot clock has become pointless really.

Better to just bring pot black back now and again, with maybe the top 16. A single frame tournament over a 128 field would take an age to complete unless it's a multi table arena. Players would be completely risk averse, it would benefit the **** houses of the game where slow play and negative shot selection would win the day.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the original idea for the shootout but they realised it would mean slow play and negativity winning out so they invented all the rules that are meant to promote attacking play. Unfortunately the format still rewards players for taking things slowly and gamesmanship so can't be taken seriously.

I feel everyone is missing the point here, yes the format is ****e and it should be this or could be that and shouldn't be that etc, but why does it have to be for us old school snooker fans? Not like we haven't got enough to watch on the current calendar, without wanting this one to appeal to us too is it??

Fatfreddy on here has a 12yr old son who's interested in snooker because of the shootout, that's good enough for me, I don't need to watch it or care, the Masters is next for me and the rest of "US" old lot.

The Scottish Open and Riyadh Season Snooker Championship to go before we even think about The Masters.

Very fair point CC, if it attracts younger folk to the game , it can only be a good thing so we shouldn't complain, next generation and all that jazz.

I like it as it is but tell the crowd to shut up and tell the refs that they don't need to continually walk around behind a player who wants to get a move on because the clock is running down , stand aside and keep still, Ben Williams yesterday the dolt!
Oh! and make the bloody table a bit slower as well, too much time waiting for the balls to stop on a table that's about two foot faster than normal.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
