Seems obvious he is biding his time, practicing new techniques with a newer cue and waiting till he's completely ready before coming back to any tournament. All of this must surely be part of his preparation for one last proper crack at the WC and an eighth title. With all his academies around the world, Hong Kong residency, hobnobbing with the really rich in both Middle and Far East; I am sure your right, playing for peanuts (to him now) has lost its attraction.
I will not be surprised if after the WSC he retires and do lucrative exhibitions for a few years.
And I for one, will not miss the "will he wont he" (drop out that is) atmosphere we are in at the mo
